«  As they say on paper: "It sounds like bass should"! »

Published on 04/20/11 at 09:09
Tube preamp (12AX7 a)
Two input jacks (one regular and one boosted, I think ..) and a line-out XLR
350 W
An HP 15 "
5 knobs: Volume, bass, middle, treble and gain plus two switches "Deep" and "Bright".
A few ultra-solid on top and wheels (Hallelujah, the bug still weighs 30 kg ..)

A particular look, which I love. The tweed cab, its effect is still on stage, amid the black boxes .. When we see and when we hear, I smell the desert, hot, Mexico, sweat ... In short, it's very very hot ..
The knobs "chicken feet" and the light ruby contribute to this atmosphere ..

I takes only 8 because I wish there were the connections needed to move the amp into 8 Ω speaker and add an extra .. Like a 4X10, 1X15, which would have completed. "But that would break with the next vintage of the range .. But the sound of the 15" alone is more than enough to fill .. In repeated; I put the volume and the gain to 4 and my guitar is almost cry ..
Similarly, the handles on the side would have been simpler than the handle on top .. But at the time, the handle was on top .. Vintage, I tell you!

UTILIZATION

Extremely simple, no equalizer to 120000 frequency, no clear channels / saturated / modern / vintage / etc ...
An amplifier for those who do not want to take the lead or most of us stayed (I'm in between ..).
One branch, it sounds! Afterwards, we refine the equalizer with three bands and two boosts "Deep" and "Bright" ..
According to the manufacturer, the setting "flat" is this: B = 3, M = 1, T = 3 .. And it sounds live! Afterwards, we change to the ear.
There is a manual, I did not read it, I do not know where he is, but anyway, it's not even thick enough to prop up my coffee table .. Therefore totally useless ..

SOUNDS

It's simple: it is a modernized new edition (in manufacturing, not in sound) of early Fender Bassman 50s. The sound is warm, even fat, it's not an amp that sings, it's an amp that roars ..
I play a Yamaha bass TRB4 amended ('sounded too modern pickups changed to "vintagiser" the beast ..) and soon with an Epiphone Jack Casady (I know beforehand that it will sound ..) and the sound is exactly as I wanted: round and warm. I play with his inflated with overdrive (either with my pedal (EBS ValveDrive (tube)) or by pushing the gain of the amplifier to its limits .. It is for that!
I was looking for a big sound for playing blues-rock work in the genre of ZZ Top, Queens Of The Stone Age, The Doors, The White Stripes ... In short, I had the vintage, heavy, fat, sexy etc. .. In short, this is not one of these amps screaming and dry as Hartke, SWR or Markbass (sorry for the fans ..): you play bass, right? So here is an amp for a true bass sound!
I thought at the base of the Ampeg BA600-115, but I fell for this Fender from the first second .. And I think I'm the right choice .. The Ampeg has not had that vintage sound that I love so much! And many more Ampeg has reputation before ..
I also use it on guitar .. And the sound is also very hot, very bold, very heavy, like the sound of Josh Homme with Queens Of The Stone Age for example.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it since July about 2010 ..

Ascending:
Sound
The simple to use:
The look
The wheels that save lives and back

The -:
Weight (but not prohibitive, it smells strength .. And then, whatever the make or model, for a combo of that power, you'll never have a featherweight ..)
Handles on the side would have been welcome.
The possibility of adding an additional speaker is also practical. Although the power delivered by the 15 "is more than enough!
