Fender Vintage Noiseless Pickups

Fender Vintage Noiseless Jazz Bass Pickup SetPublished on 01/03/03 at 15:00
Purchased at Guitar Center's, Cleveland, Ohio on clearence for $49.95 each. Was purchased as an upgrade.

Over-all, these pickups sound just great! A 2000% improvment over the stock MIM pickups in my standard Strat. I've already used them to record, and I can attest to the fact that these are -very- quiet pickups indeed, while maintaining a very good sound. The biggest suprise was the sensitivity of these pickups...they capture every little nauance of your playing (which may -or- may not be a good thing!). As an added value (I would assume), Fender also includes new control pot's with each pickup (assumming the pickups were purchased seperatly instead of a kit), as well as new caps...…

The biggest suprise was the sensitivity of these pickups...they capture every little nauance of your playing (which may -or- may not be a good thing!). As an added value (I would assume), Fender also includes new control pot's with each pickup (assumming the pickups were purchased seperatly instead of a kit), as well as new caps and a resistor. I combined two neck/mid pickups (these are actually a stacked humbucker) with a Seymour Duncan Scorcher Rail in the bridge position...just fabulous tone and dynamics! I would have to rate these pickups as 9 outta 10.

There are a few downsides to these pickups...the main one being they don't quite sound like "Strat" pickups. Even though they are some kind of humbucking pickup, they don't have that "Gibson" sound, but they don't quite have that "bell-like" Strat tone to them either. If you -really- must have that vintage strat tone, then the 57/62 pickups may be a better choice. Also...be prepaired to do -allot- of soldering! If your not handy with a soldering iron, then be prepaired to pay a couple of extra $ to have them installed for you. While I can't say anything about the pre packaged "set" of these, the indiviual pickups are -NOT- prewired and if your going to replace the volume/tone pots, theres quite a bit of soldering that will need to be done.

Construction and quality seem to be top rate. Good stuff from Fender!

Again, over-all these are really great pickups, especially for doing any kind of recording! I've been running this guitar with the new pickups into a new Digitech RP50 and right into the board/daw and the sounds I'm getting are just fantastic! For the clearence price I got them at, I honestly could not be happier (despite the slight lack of "bell tone"). Even at the full retail price of $74.95 each, these pickups are a bargain.

Gentle Breezes to all!

I use them for several weeks on a Japanese JB.

I like the least sound. Compared to Delano I had on one another ... it's very low no.

No noise but no life, no heat and more manufacturing is cheap.

With experience, I save and buy anything but Fender.

The pickups are too high end, I'll see the side of the high-end artisanal (Sp Hepcat or custom) or I stay home to see Delano.

Correction: In retrospect I realized that my Jazz bass were Mexican. But my opinion remains the same. Beware I bought on ebay to runs83 is a crook.
