«  expensive but very correct with limits »

This is a small box with a potentiometer to adjust the volume on the guitar by inserting trailing in the loop of the amp.
Connectors: 1 hall, 1 1/4 output jack "
Obviously it's analog!
The small package (easily inserted into a "pedalboard") is provided with a potentiometer with a button that the large building claims adjustable foot.

UTILIZATION

Usage is very simple. Be aware, however, connect jacks and turn a knob.
The manual (a small printed on one small page ... no need for more!) Is not necessary, except for those who are interested in the recommendations of various connection (downstream of the amp, in the loop, etc. )

I have a doubt on the claim of the manufacturer that the device is adjustable by foot. Yes I do! feasible. But the button knob is not that big! It is therefore feasible on stage, but in calm conditions, or stress out off excitement! Guitarists a little nervous or excited may have difficulty using the foot to often vary its setting. I do not use it that way and this limitation does not bother me, but to "punish" the builder who does not keep his promises, I will note "4 - Insufficient"

SOUND QUALITY

Here we come to the positive.
We all know we guitarists, that to vary the volume using the knob of the guitar changes the tonal balance of sound - treble loss, among others.
I remember I use this "gadget" in the loop of the amp - Egnater Rebel Combo. And, for the sole purpose when I have to play with some decibels to calm down the loudness of the rebel whose setting has hardly progressive early in the race (like many tube amps) : going from "nothing" to "too much" at once. For this the "Subtle Volume" is the trick!
1) I did not notice any difference in the sound quality of the amp when I plugged this accessory. So I think I can say that it is transparent.
2) the race of the potentiometer is approximately from 19:30 to 16:30. Throughout this range, the control is progressive
3) about 95% of its stroke, the manufacturer keeps its promise: the volume is controlled without changing the tonal spectrum. But start race (19:30 to about 20:30), on the other hand there is a little loss.

Compared to this point # 3, you still have to say that tonal spectrum does not vary as electronic issues, but also for purely acoustic reasons (stroke length of the voice coil of HP depending on the electric current , carrying air pressure wave to the eardrum, etc. ...)

This accessory can obviously be used to control the volume during play: in terms "sound quality" is perfect. Remains to be seen if the foot so easily usable. I have some doubts. The solution may be to place it on top of the amp and set it by hand - not 100% practical

OVERALL OPINION

To sum up:

The pros:
- Good sound quality
- Case does it seem solid
- Easily inserted into his board PDAL
The -:
- Price
- Handling the foot? (I'm not sure what I say: some may manage easily?)

Stratof in another opinion suggests making your own this case. He's right: it's probably very simple inside! But I am not handy and if it was necessary, in the specific context of what I expect of this "Subtle Volume", I would do the same choice.
