AMS-Neve 1084

This is a 1073 with a few more handy features: an adjustable Q factor, a high-pass and high frequency which is adjustable to 12 kHz by default on 1073. There is unfortunately little known to the general public because few products. This is a preamp mic / line up to 80 dB for the mic, analog Class A, transistor, sym / désym by transformer, high pass, low pass, 3-band eq with Baxandall style mid freq . in inductance with RLC and not by simulating a self with an aop (used increasingly in the modern equivalent to take the blows of production and unfortunately to the detriment of sound: cf Gyrator). Provide a rack with PSU and connectors.

UTILIZATION

It's expensive but what is good ..... frequencies are carefully chosen .... it stands alone .... inimitable color. On vocals, guitars, drums ... in fact it's excellent on everything. A medium characteristic.

SOUND QUALITY

a particular sound is sweet, it's hot. But it's on a lot of style ...

OVERALL OPINION

I will talk a little technical because it was originally the purpose of this notice.
For those who have problems with their sound or Neve modules are a little disappointed with their investment and expected better (I have not yet crossed ...), but hey two very important points:
- When you rack your module if you use a trim / fader 5k available on the rack sold as compatible, consider removing the resistance of 5k upstream of the connector that goes to the trimmer, if you do not, the eq is configured to operate with an output impedance of 5k it will work poorly (muffled), indeed in the impedance will be 2.5 k (5k / / 5k).
- The output transformer is designed to operate with a load of 600 ohms, or most of the stuff today to an impedance of 10k at the entrance. To make up for it, just solder a resistor / / branch of the output transformer of 680 ohms for the load seen by the transformer is of the order of 600 ohms.
