User reviews on Chauvet Obey products

Classic, but different! (Chauvet - Obey 70)

By dryo, 12/12/2010
I use it for about a month to control lyres.
Before (years ago) I used a Shaman in Starway, I think the Obey 70 is better now finished and complete.

The faders are nicer and more accurate than the Shaman, and here we have a joystick.

Like his screen, you can have a lot of info on it (next to a luxury shaman ^ ^), for cons I find it a bit thicker.
What attracted me most is the fact that this is not a clone of the other controllers of the same type. Obviously it is a product that is found only under the mark.
Other positive points: the joystick is assignable to any channel, as well as faders. One can indeed decide of the channels to be assigned to faders, allowing better ergonomics when using multiple projectors of different brands, as we can for example decide to assign the same color management issue fader for all the spotlight!
In the same vein, it is also possible to reverse the travel of the fader (or joystick). Super convenient to reverse the axes of the moving lights, without having to program it on the projector.

It has 384 DMX channels (12 projectors 32 channels), against 192 for most products concurrently.

However I do not like the feel of the buttons, they are hard plastic and it strongly implies the click. Exactly the same type of buttons on the Shaman. I liked the buttons more flexible.
The power supply is external and there is an on / off button (behind, so not very accessible if the unit is rack).

For the rest is classic:
- 12 projectors
- 30 banks and 8 scenes
- 6 chases (240 max for chase scenes)
- Activation manually, automatically or by sound (microphone, line input for no sound, damage)
- Speed and fade time sliders
- Buttons to strobe and smoke machine (a priori only a smoke machine brand are compatible).
- Rackable 19 "

The value for money looks to me satisfactory, I do not think we can be better now for the same price. A priori with the same buget I will ever be the same choice!

Practice (Chauvet - Obey 4)

Small 4x4 DMX channels for PAR and LED bar RGB and RGBW can operate in three or four channels.

Little, unfortunately, not in 19 ", but it has its advantages, it fits everywhere, handy when you arrive in a room where you can not let a half square meter for every pose.

The big advantage, plus the ability to control RGB and RGBW projos is that you can independently control four lights or groups of projectors 3 or 4 channels. Eg marriage or another, I like to illuminate the walls of the room (uplighting) with slow color fades, the dance floor with melted faster and jerky, and allow a fixed color of the governed. This console can do it all at the same time.

Several modes: macro, different AutoFades (very fluid), RBGW. There is also a musical mode. The knob span seems fragile, so it never takes a shock, I'm afraid he does not take long. I forgot, unlike other controllers, the dimmer is active regardless of the mode of operation.

The downside: the front panel LEDs are very bright, annoying limits in complete darkness.

In short, this small console makes me good service on benefits small and medium. Of course it does not offer all the possibilities of a true DMX projos if you can work in more than four channels, however, the preprogrammed chases but still adjustable (fade time etc) are very convenient, it saves huge time. I will test soon in theater. To see ...

Nice for the price (Chauvet - Obey 70)

I use it for 1 year
I had a Pilot-192 Contest and Showtec Scanmaster
I love the access to 16 DMX channels without having to change page
Touch of clear to send a scene or show very quickly and hard plastic buttons, no, you have to press hard enough
The original grill transformer after six months, I replace it with a universal transformer (6 € 00 Auchan)
Value for money correct, I would do this choice anyway despite some negative points. It is simple to program and strong time

Comprehensive but complex (Chauvet - Obey 70)

I use this stuff for 2 years for me. This is my 2nd controller. I put over 4 slim so I'm far from exploiting its full potential. Programming is simple but painful as it must have an idea of what we want to do. I programmed qq scenes without problem. I think it lacks some self who would have helped me programs (eg chaser)
