Published on 09/10/03 at 15:00I bought my drum set about a year ago because I had grown out of my old set. I paid around $1500 canadian, at Musicstop.
When I cracked open the boxes of these suckers I was blown away! They sounded great and looked great. I did a show this summer past and they sounded amazing in the crowd when my bassist played them (and he sucks), oh and what a glare from the lights OH MAN! All the hardware was awesome too, I can honestly say I will only ever replace about 35% of hardware that was included, every else stays.
Takes a nice bit of tweaking to get your set tuned the right way, but I think that was because they were all skinned with factory Yamaha/"Remo" crap. Which I also disliked...…

The hardware was all stellar, not one complaint about the hardware. One thing about the quality though, the finish is pretty easily nicked. But if your careful enough and don't mind investing 200$ for a set of cheap cases thats not a problem. I've toted my set around now for almost a year in bed sheets and have only gotten one tick. I'm extra precautios as hell with these suckers too, my band mates think im obsessed which I am.
Awesome Semi-Pro set with a great sound for a resonable price! It was worth every penny. I'm a diehard Yamaha fan for life now.

The kit looks great, sounds great. It comes with very good quality hardware, and I actually think the snaer is okay, it just takes a bit of time to get it how you want. The drums are made of good stuff.
Like the other guy says, the heads are pretty cheesy. I havent actually replaced them yet because I havent got the money, im saving for a Sabian Pro Stage Crash, great cymbal, anyway if i did i would get a set of double plys - I think that would increase the quality of the sound.

Hey, if you want hardware, i dont know if you can get this hardware separately but get it! The stands of this lot are great. Apart from them, because my bedget is low, i have a set of CB stands, which I have to adjust frequently, like twice a day, but Ive only needed to adjust the Yamaha Stands once since christmas! And that was only the Hihat Stand because it had loosend very very slightly!
Great for hard hitters, the floor toms is suspension mounted, and the snare is very pronounced and tight. Good Stuff.

I like how the tom mounting arms dont penetrate the shell. The hardware is beefy.
The heads that ame with the set are cheesy. They had to be replaced first thing.The snare latch is also cheesy. I like to really tighten the snares, but if you release the lever, you cant re-latch it back. you have to back off, then re-tighten it while it's latched, real annoying.
Contruction seems good, the drums sound good and look professional.
Overall this is a good set. I expected more from a Yahama kit, I wasnt blown away, maybe a higher end model will do that, but this is just a good set.

I play on this drum set primarily in my school’s Jazz band Class. I have been playing on it only for a year but I can still base a review of even that! Just like all sets, it has its pros and its cons.
I’ll first start out with the pros that the Yamaha Stage Custom Advantage drums hold. First off, for drums that are this high in quality the price if phenomenal. Next thing is the tone. Being that these drums are made from Birch, mahogany, and Falkata woods, the tone is very unique. They produce a warm, sustained and fat sound. The drums are also made in an 8-ply configuration for maximum strength and hold. Another thing that I really like about this drum set is all of the different finishes that you can get it in; everything from natural, blue fade, to silver wrap. Yamaha does it all. Lastly, I love the tom mounting system that Yamaha used on these drums. It’s sort of a ball and socket method, so you are able to place your rack toms about anywhere. It’s also a very comfortable process if you want to switch up your configuration a little bit.
Now onto the cons of the drums. Really, there is only one main thing that I’ve noticed from playing these drums, and it’s that after about a year of playing, these drums will develop small cracks on the inside of the drums. I don’t know if that’s just the set we have at school that’s doing that, or if it’s all, it’s just something I’ve noticed.
Overall, this set of drums is great. Everything from their look, price and tone catches my eyes and ears every time. I would highly recommend these to all sorts of different drummers. Everyone from beginners to pros, the Yamaha Stage Custom Advantage set is great!
