1 dubstep bmp questions

iv made a few dubstep songs at 120 bmp and it sounds alright but its missing a lot of dubstep style. Iv read that dubstep is at around 140 bmp. what does it mean to have the bmp at a half-step or double time. Because i would think 140 bmp would sound too fast for dubstep unless it was at a half-step. How do i make it at a half step? thanks

Think of the metrenome as a timer. Having dubstep play around 140 bmp is perfect if you understand how music works. 140bmp would be like 70bmp with a hihat hitting on 4 counts per bar, instead of two.
