« Korg AX30G »

I got this unit just two weeks ago. I live in Perth, Western Australia and I bought this pedal from a guy in the USA. I paid 65US dollars and by the time it arrived in Western Australia it cost me 190AUS (~95US).

What I like about this multi effects is its sound, bottom line. Great warm tube sound for that SRV, Hendrix tone. Also, there are a wide variety of patches on the net to get the sound that you want. It comes with 4 pedals with one bank switch which makes it easy to select your different effects.

LCD display is great and programming is quite simple. It took me only about 1 hour to get this pedal up and running.

What I dont like about this multi effects is that when you change to a different effects the signal is lost for just under half a second. Apparently, most of the other older multi effects do this and I really dont like it. There is a way to circumnavigate this though. You can press the pedal swith half way down and put it into bypass mode then soon afterwards press the pedal all the way down. This way you dont lose the signal. Furthermore, you can use individual mode which alows you to change between drive, modualtion and ambience effects within a patch programme.

Pitch shifter is a little "sqeally" but still sounds ok. The pressure pedal is fairly good, but not as good as an expression pedal. This can be overcome as the unit has a dedicated port for an external expression pedal and volume pedal. I believe this unit is now superseded by the AX300G and AX1000G.

Unit is tough and durable as it has lasted the test of time (3 years). Every thing still works on this unit and nothing has broken, and if anything the pedal has probably improved as the pressure pedal seems to be quite sensitive. Other reviews may say otherwise about the pressure pedal.

This unit sounds great! I am fairly satified with the sounds and tones that come out of this box. I play with a Fender Strat through a Marshall JCM900 and it gives me the sound that I want. You can also get a bass guitar sound, pipe organ sound and accoustic guitar sound out of this box which makes it very versatile. I used the crossfire patch to play to some of SRV's music on the stereo and it sounds very close to the tones that he used to use. I would recommend this unit for its sound alone, but may be look for multi effects that doesnt stop the signal when you change effects. Maybe the Korg AX1000G doesnt do this.
