Review of the Lauten Audio LA-320 tube-condenser microphone

A Versatile and Affordable Tube Mic The LA-320 is the first mic in Lauten Audio’s new "Series Black" line. Lauten, whose product line also features many high-end mics, have put out a large-diaphragm tube condenser with a price point ($499) aimed at the home and project studio market. Not only that, they’ve hit it out of the park. read more…

A review of the Blue Microphones Hummingbird

A Bird in the Stand A mic with a swiveling capsule is not a new concept, but it isn’t something you typically find in a mic as affordable as the Blue Hummingbird. The swiveling feature is no gimmick — it makes a big difference in mic positioning, both in terms of physically being able to place the mic where you want it, and in the ability to find the best placement for a given source. read more…

Excellent for Recording Vocals Until... (Sterling Audio - ST51)

By D Aasiya-Bey, 19/01/2019
I used this mic to record vocals and it initially gave a nice quality sound that was warm and clear. After a few months of using the mic, it started making a crackling and static sound that would come and go intermittently. I thought it might have been the cable so I purchased a high quality cable but the problem continued. I have had to do recordings with hopes that the static sound would not return while singing was occurring. I have had to redo vocal tracks due to the static sound manifesting during a recording and now the mic does not work at all.
It's unfortunate that a mic with such an excellent build quality that initially generated a top notch sound no longer works. Lastly, this mic was in a stable environment (home studio) and handled with care.

Here are some successful recordings that I did with the mic before it stopped working (all vocals were done using this mic).

Sony c 35 p small condenser mic (top adress !) (Sony - C35P)

By Nik Richter, 06/02/2019
The Sony C 35 P is a microphone from Sony´s golden aera. It is a cardiod, small diaphragm, top adress microphone and needs 48v phantompower. The sound is somewhere between a Neumann Km 84 i and a Shoeps Colette. There´s a side adress version, the Sony C 36 P with the same capsule and soundwise very similar. These microphones are excellent for
room, piano, overheads, percussion, acoustic guitar... and a lot of other stuff.

Neumann TLM 103 works beautifully on acoustic guitars (Neumann - TLM 103)

By bainmack, 02/06/2019
Hello curious wanderer,
Owned and used a Neumann TLM 103 for about a year now.
I've paired it with various preamps including a LA-610 mKII.
Primarily used w/ acoustic guitars and vocals.
There does tend to be a lot of artifacts when using this mic at close sources -- these artifacts i have not experienced with other mics and concluded that the microphone is causing the problem. These 'artifacts' are distortion in nature of the source and tend to be difficult to edit out or make EQ correction. That's why I only give this a 4 star instead of 5 star review.

BUT, like always, take every review with a grain of salt.
You can hear it paired w/ other microphones here:
