1 M-audio firewire 410
My unit just stopped working!!, I tried everything and it also does nothing thru any other computers I've tried. no blue light mo nothing. I've heard of this problem with numerous other m-audio units. anyone alse had this problem?
I'm considering sending it to service but am expecting the price to be nearly as much as the unit cost!!

Did you pull out the firewire cable while it was on, or when you r compute was on? i've heard this can cause it to stop working.

The Firewire 410 can be touchy, but once you get it set up properly and you turn your machine on and off normally, you should have few issues.

If it stops working, or you get the dreaded fast flashing blue light-- uninstall and then reinstall using the newest drivers found on the M-Audio website-- they've improved installation quite a bit lately.

If you get NO LIGHTS at all on your unit-- it indicates no power, and/or no connection. Check your cables and connections first. If you get a flashing light, reinstall your drivers.

Be aware--

The Firewire 410 MAY NOT WORK with a VIA chipset Firewire card/firewire port in your computer.

I had a Via 3 port Firewire PCI card in my old Pentium 4 Asus motherboard computer and it worked fine. THEN, I built a new Gigabyte Quad Core PC, using the exact same Via Firewire PCI card, and it WOULD NOT WORK without an extreme and unusable amount of pops and static.

I replaced it with a Belkin Firewire PCI card (that has a Texas Instruments chip instead of the more common Via chip) bought at Staples of all places, and it then worked perfectly again.

So, BEWARE of the Via chipset, and if necessary switch to a Belkin or other Texas Instrument chipped Firewire connector. Note: M-Audio readily admits this problem, but it may take you forever to track it down on their support pages.

PS--- NEVER plug in the Firewire 410 while your machine is on. IT IS NOT HOT SWAPABLE and you can wreck your Firewire card/PC port or the 410 if you do so.
