«  It depends on the firewire »

Value For Money : Excellent
I was looking for a digital audio interface:
- With / Out Midi
- With input / output S / PDIF
- Stand-alone operation

These criteria are met by the Konnekt 8. I also wanted to use Power over Firewire, unfortunately using it with a laptop, it only offers a 4-pin connector (think of buying the cable that goes well, only a 6 pin to 6-pin is included) and is So skip the food. But as the Konnekt 8 is mainly used in stand-alone ...

I use it in conjunction with an Axe FX for headphones and monitors, and optionally my laptop for recording or playback.

My config? An old Asus laptop with 2 GB of ram, an Intel Core Duo@1.83Ghz, Windows XP SP2.

Good points:
- Solid! The large aluminum
- Full connectivity (= covering all of my needs)
- Works as a standalone
- The headphone output that mute the monitor outputs
- Comes with Cubase LE, handy when one starts from scratch

Bad points:
- Heavy and big
- Button on / off the back
- LED too powerful

Update:
I use it now with a MacBook Pro, which has a much better Firewire controller, the difference is obvious, exemplary stability.

UTILIZATION

Attention to the installation, the driver delivered was completely overwhelmed! An update is available, consider how, if you install on a machine not connected to the Internet, try the site by TC Electronic.

After the installation is done in a very traditional way ...

The TC Near software is very well done and very clear, the configuration of the card is very easy. Apart from the vagaries of the total beginner, I could quickly set up what I needed (for use with the Axis FX S / PDIF sync with external clock).

Update after one year of use:
We can not say that it is very successful ... The drivers are updated but are still somewhat successful (between wild reboot the computer during installation and crashes more frequent than before), and surprise this morning: the chrome portion of the RCA S / PDIF IN is came with the jack handle for its first!

GETTING STARTED

Predominantly used in stand-alone monitor Axis FX, it does very well, absolutely no complaints. Latency of 11.8 ms at the last census.

Connected to the computer via Firewire is a bit worse. The Konnekt 8 is "disconnected" alone, TC Near can not see it, have to disconnect / reconnect. Too bad. Fortunately it does not happen often, but it is never pleasant.

I use it with Cubase LE comes in the packaging, it has some problems with the profiles in 48 KHz, I have to change it by hand each time. But this is not the responsibility of the interface.

Update after one year of use:
Still have problems on this side ... design problem, unfortunately, it is mismanaging the Firewire controller other than IT. It would have been nice to highlight the product, so as not to discover a posteriori.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for the past three months.

Its main asset? Use self-contained kind of connection.
Its main drawback? Its slight instability in Windows XP

The price / quality ratio is good, it was quality material (physical performance) for a fair price.

In the same price range, certainly I would do the same choice, but would be great temptation to go upmarket ...

The overall score is the average of the past: 8

Update after one year of use:
The party is the top, the party driver is still missed, and I begin to have doubts about its reliability. A change to another brand could take place in the coming months. TC Electronic ended for me!
