Apple released the first major updates of its Logic Pro X DAW and Mainstage live software, but many new features.

What’s new in Logic Pro X 10.1:

  • 10 new Drummers for electronic and hip hop styles
  • Added dedicated control for hip hop or electronic drum groove composing
  • New Drum Machine Designer with sounds and features to customize electronic drum kits for a variety of styles
  • New Brush tool in the piano roll editor to create note sequences with the mouse
  • New piano roll display options to visualize more notes in a smaller vertical space and easily  identify drum sound names
  • New time handles for selected notes in the piano roll
  • Note Repeat and Spot Erase modes allow for creating rhythms in real time by using classic Drum Machine techniques
  • Proportional smart quantize for note length and sync
  • Improved Compressor module with a Retina-compatible interface and 7 models, including a classic VCA
  • Create wavetables from imported audio and layer up to 8 voices in the Retro Synth
  • Automation can now be part of a region
  • added relative and trim automation modes
  • Added VCA-style faders for large project mixing
  • Remote control the mic and other input settings from the mixer, for compatible audio interfaces
  • Fade real time rendering is now compatible with Flex Pitch
  • Customize the module manager menu
  • 200 new patches and 10 classic Mellotron instruments added to the sound library
  • Share projects via Mail Drop and Air Drop in OS X Yosemite 

Mainstage 3.1 on its side adds some of the new features found in Logic Pro X 10.1, plus a couple of additions:

  • Improved Compressor module with a Retina-compatible interface and 7 models, including a classic VCA
  • Create wavetables from imported audio and layer up to 8 voices in the Retro Synth
  • Customize the module manager menu
  • 200 new patches and 10 classic Mellotron instruments added to the sound library
  • New Auto Sampler that allows for using hardware synths as sampled instruments
  • New shortcut editor to assign and edit user shortcuts

To download these updates, open the Mac App Store app on your computer.
