Robin Schneider « Equalizer Hi-fi quality »
Published on 07/06/14 at 13:14This is a stereo equalizer Hi-fi, but its audio characteristics make it quite usable in the studio if we pay attention to the input / output levels.
Its nominal input level is 0dBv (1V) and can from various sources internet banking 9V or 20 dBV.
I know some devices "studio" that not much headroom.
Frequency Response: 5Hz-100KHz
Distortion: 0.02% but I do not know under what conditions. To the ear is a very neutral device.
Input / output RCA connectors and also has "tape out" and "tape my" cinch also.
It weighs 6kg and is not rackable (in fact it is 3U but has no ears for Racker).
It works with transistors and diodes, it is a device designed to be efficient and neutral.
UTILIZATION
For studio use, simply connect the inputs / outputs and all is well.
I've never seen the manual, it was given to me in the state.

Note that there is no input / output gain. Settings left / right on the facade are calibrations for level indicators, which are not standard VU meter (they range from -12 to 12 but appear to meet the ballistic VU)

SOUND QUALITY
This quality is an equalizer. It fulfills its role without making coloration (distortion).
I use it directly insert and can largely cash a line-level standard 4dBu without twisting.
Bands are wide enough, it can sculpt the whole spectrum without surgery. You feel the unit is to globally adapt a system to its tracks.
It can boost generously without making breath. the boost to 16Khz is also very nice and helps to realize that the bands are wide enough.
Frequencies are generally well chosen although it is regrettable 160Hz instead of 200Hz to work a basic snare or rounded bass. The same goes for the 900Hz I would gladly swapped for a 800Hz.
OVERALL OPINION
I just acquired, but I've used it in my studio.
I have very good EQ studio (Summit, Neve, UA) and I am not disappointed to have this one more. It is radically different from what I have, this is my first graphic EQ and it can also serve as treatment that bus taking her to highlight one aspect of the signal. The 30Hz can serve low-cut decision and it is quite radical on toms for example where you can directly bring out what you want. I can also use it to equalize the sidechain of my analog compressors as my audio Valley 610.
Having obtained free of value for money is relatively close to perfection. I find it hard to estimate the value of this product in the 70s.
