Korg and Japanese manufacturer Noritake have been working on a new innovative valve for hi-fi and instrument amps. Meet the Nutube.

The Nutube 6P1 is an ultra compact high performance tube that uses traditional anode, grille and filament, just like on any standard tube. It works as a triode tube, generates the same harmonics, but its structure was modified by Noritake Co. Limited to reduce its size to less than 30% of the normal volume and power consumption. According to the brands, it requires only 2% of the power of a conventional tube, which allows for using it in battery-powered amps. Another interesting point is that the Nutube does not heat that much and it has a 30 000 hour autonomy.

The Nutube is still under development, it will be produced in Japan in the Noritake Itron factory. Korg is planning to equip their instruments and amps with these new models this year (we’ll have a look at the Vox products in particular).
