MXR ZW38 Black Label Chorus

The MXR ZW39 is a stereo chorus pedal designed for use with electric guitar, but can be used with any electronic instrument.  It has 1/4 inch connections and can be powered either by a nine volt battery or a nine volt power supply.  It is an analog pedal and cannot be rack mounted as it is a stomp box.


UTILIZATION

The make up of the MXR ZW39 stereo chorus couldn't be any easier to use and follow as it only has three different knobs.  The pedal has parameters for delay time, width, and speed, each on a one to ten scale.  Even if you don't have any experience with guitar pedals, I don't think you'll have any trouble figuring this out as it only takes a little while of playing around with it to see what everything does.  I don't have the manual so I don't know how thorough it is, but it isn't necessary as the pedal is easy enough on its own.


SOUND QUALITY

The sounds heard from the MXR ZW39 stereo chorus really aren't all that impressive.  While it certainly gives you a chorus sound that is capable of being manipulated in a number of different ways, the inherent sound isn't that great.  It lacks a certain richness and depth that I look for in a chorus pedal and for this reason isn't suitable for recording and I wouldn't even use it for live shows really.


OVERALL OPINION

I've first used the MXR ZW39 stereo chorus a few years ago, but I've only used a few times as I try to stay away from it.  I don't like the sounds you get from this pedal even though it is really easy to use.  There are tons of other chorus pedals out there that I would recommend that are in a similar price range even though they aren't this cheap, like some of the Boss and MXR chorus pedals.  I can't say I would recommend this pedal to anyone and I would recommend looking elsewhere for your chorus tones.

I use it in the effects loop of a Mesa Mark V with a Flying V (SH2 & SH4)

SOUND QUALITY

The sound is amazing chorus a vintage grain velvety and well he can be returned from the drive and it sounds, mixing the chorus is very satisfying not only food and not eaten by the drive, there are both. .. for the Queen is perfect

OVERALL OPINION

I'm not particularly a fan of Zakk Wylde, on the other hand Chorus worth a visit in its register it is better than the MXR Stereo Chorus I own and Tc Electonic Corona or CFS, drive mode it is already over, and clean fashion was more presence ... given its minimal cost is given limit, test absolutely

In terms of features, it is right in the MXR tradition, so if you know the brand, you know that it is very simple and you do not tighten disappointed!

UTILIZATION

Usage is very simple, although there have 5 knobs (so a lot of sound possibilities), we quickly found the sound you seek! Personally, I opted for the direct personal control of Mr. Wylde himself (3 presets are given in the instructions, as on many signatures in MXR pedals) and I've never needed to change. This preset is suitable in its clear that its saturated (being a big fan of Zakk and John Sykes, the Chorus distortion, this is important!)

In short, no need for manual if not to see the presets Zakk or drool over the MXR catalog supplied with!

SOUND QUALITY

Here we come to the concrete! While this pedal in sound is huge! Why do you say? Well:
- It ensures that both Clean and Crunch in Disto
- The product is Chorus I find Old Scool ', ie round, very soft (not a bit aggressive) and fits squarely in the sound of your guitars (I have tested it on e Les Paul Custom, Jackson Dinky DK2MG and Gibson SG, and believe me, no need to change settings!)

It is awfully surprised by the beast in the first test. I play Marshall 6100 30th Anniversary and sounds of this amp with the Black Label Chorus strongly resemble the sound of Zakk on the album No More Tears! Just that!

OVERALL OPINION

I use this pedal for over a week and I played about twenty hours on about. I've tested a few different chorus pedals in the same price range and more upscale, it is obviously the one that was right in my choice!

The big plus of this pedal is its off-road character that allow it to be highly effective on all types of sounds. Its only tiny fault is that guitarists who are not particularly fans of Zakk Wykde or Black Label Society will miss this pedal that would certainly have conquered!

I got it at a price of € 89 on the net, the value for money is exceptional! I remake that choice 1000 times if necessary!

View previous posts, nothing to add .... but one thing can be said already but it's worth repeating, it is very solid.

UTILIZATION

Usage is fairly simple, plus it comes with instructions for use, (amber I grant you) but gives a good working basis, after we must rely on his cage honey. Watch out anyway if you have big fingers, sometimes they move two knobs at once. But it's good to take a shot.
Anyway it's pretty easy to find her very correct with this pedal and if it is caught, the desire to toy with quickly becomes involved to the point of annoying his little playmates staring at you in stunned being played with the knobs, saying, "Wow, that's cool too as it's not you find? ..." All that to say it offers many possibilities of play is better to be armed with a paper and a pencil to note the different settings that you chose.

SOUND QUALITY

In terms of sound, then there ... we find immediately the leg of Mr. Zakk, and frankly it sounds serious. I remember having bluffed another scratch that looked at my foot and told me "What is that thing?" When sound came out of my amp, he understood. the sound is creamy, soft and round. For power walks, it's just a killer and a very heavy metal distortion that you décoifferait a bat.
Indeed it is tiny, but it provides. And frankly, considering the price, even new, it is really worth.

OVERALL OPINION

It has been nearly six months that uses it, and live in snooze and this little pedal has not stopped following me everywhere so I love it. (Well that's the sound it produces more than I like, make no mistake ...) In addition it takes very little space on the pedalboard, so ... why deny it? Anyway I do not regret having purchased.
