    Unloved yet

Boss DS-2 TURBO DistortionPublished on 11/26/14 at 04:18

Distortion with a "turbo" mode, input output jack, everything has been said.

    UTILIZATION

It will be simpler, one seeks the sound we love and Simone car. (Simon or if you are a girl, or whatever)

    SOUND QUALITY

This is the first effect I bought myself !!!
Yes it can be unloved, I personally have emerged to play on my Engl Screamer. It sends wood! We can if we want to append a SD1 and there was a vicious duel.
Of course it was popularized by Kurt Cobain (and I admit this has influenced my purchase at the time) as his sister DS1 (I hesitate to have to test).

I do not think it sounds synthetic, I've never cheated on her with another pedal (haha it was easy) distortion except family boss, because others do not like them.
Here it is rough around the edges.
Measure out for distortion sounds yucky not overdrive typed by the user against turbo I not use it. I prefer the "lead" as "solo".
Finally, as all effects, do so before test (scratching your amp or even the same).

    OVERALL OPINION

First effect bought almost 20 years ago!
I wanted to sound like Nirvana (I thought as much, that the effect was enough alone; before discovering the world of music and its intricacies).
In short, I have never sold, it always makes me service and is IN DE STRU CTIBLE.
She took wrinkles (some shots deci beyond) but still holds up.
I always play with, and all the amps I've tried to, I have never been disappointed.
Yes I would do this choice, I would try the DS 1 well too.

    Blah blah

Boss DS-2 TURBO DistortionPublished on 11/23/14 at 06:58
(This content has been automatically translated from French)
Everything has already been said in the previous opinion.
Basically it's an analog pedal with 3 settings (tone, volume, gain) and a switch between two modes (I = DS1 colder, II = boost mids).

    UTILIZATION

Easy pedal use, the battery is very easy to change.
    The pedal seems fairly robust.

    SOUND QUALITY

The sound is super synthetic (it seems that it is normal for Made in Taiwan).
Mode II is not workable for me (much too loud): This should be useful to boost solos but it takes an additional footswitch to switch modes when playing.
Live on a clear amp sound is pretty bad (it looks more like a kind of synthetic fuzz): we are very far from the "big" sound typical Nirva…

Live on a clear amp sound is pretty bad (it looks more like a kind of synthetic fuzz): we are very far from the "big" sound typical Nirvana I thought get along with. Oddly rendering is best on a transistor amp on a tube amp.
The use I've found it is a boost Crunch amp or coloring of the distortion of the amp. Indeed, its particular equalizer adds a rather grainy color to her personally pleases me. But I admit that it is a very limited use and that it is not worth buying the pedal.

    OVERALL OPINION

I bought it used (she had almost never used) for € 35 hoping naively get a "big" sound typical Nirvana ... Needless to say I was disappointed.
The headroom is not as huge as touted by the manufacturer and the sound is very concise.
I must also say that I was getting an amazing idea of Boss pedals (which made me dream as a kid) and I finally was disappointed (the second pedal Boss I own and the second disappointment - I have yet pedals Boss ME 70 I'm very happy). As if everything is a story of personal taste.
The only use I made is to color the distortion of an amp by setting the gain to a quarter or a booster Crunch.
For the price I did not do too bad a deal, but to use that I would choose another brand (and another model) if it again.

    SOUND QUALITY

It can range from basic distortion, chemical or biting distortion, we reserve the pedal to the guitar, for the rest I think it will be too sharp and sour. Note that you can add a switch not supplied by bosses to switch from one mode to another (which can act as mediums to boost passages in single notes). For the price it works well we'll say.

    OVERALL OPINION

I used a lot at the beginning of my discovery of the distortion (my first real pedal anyway! ^ ^) I have tried many others since, rotten, the better, but it is in the middle of ranking, and for the price, there is not much to complain about. 9 years later it still holds up already, for me it's a good extra distortion.

Editing sounds and effects is it easy? yes, namely between modes I and II are very different sounds, allowing a wide range.

    SOUND QUALITY

The effects are they effective, responsive and realistic enough? I find the sound just great! I bought this pedal primarily for the sound of Nirvana (I'm a fan). I do not like the sound of the DS-1 against. I was a little afraid that this pedal I can use THAT to play Nirvana, or sounds quite aggressive, but in fact it is very versatile. With humbuckers, it's aggressive, perfect for Grunge, Metal ..... with P90, it can sound very big rock "fat", the sound is "humming" if you see it 'that I' want say ..... not bad lowering the volume of the guitar, have passed on something much softer, like "rock ballad" .... ultimately we get to make it sound as much like a big Disto aggressive than an Overdrive not too far.
Ah yes, I forgot, I use this Disto with Epiphone Les Paul Standard and Les Paul Junior (only P90).

    OVERALL OPINION

How long have you use it? 3 months

Have you tried many other models before buying it? Not bad, but many were more complicated, especially for midrange control, without being as effective .... I wanted to try the FAMOUS brand Boss, and I must say I am not disappointed!

What is the particular feature you like best and least? The pros: the simplicity of the settings, the build quality (it's Boss), the sonic versatility.
The - I do not like the normal mode, which is similar to the DS-1 .... the sound is too "muffled" and deaf to my taste ..... I almost never use this position.

How would you rate the quality / price? Very good, especially as a lot of other Boss pedals cost more in general.

With experience, you do again this choice? ... Without any hesitation! if only for THE sound of Kurt Cobain! it was my first goal, and mission accomplished!

Distortion pedal of "legend": see other reviews for features.

    UTILIZATION

Easy to use: level settings - tone - distortion, and finally two positions for the distortion: standard or turbo (standard on steroids).

    SOUND QUALITY

Proper sound quality, a "standard" rather distortion, but with a lot of breath as soon as you shoot into a corner. The fault I found him I would have liked an intermediate position between standard and turbo for a precisely through distortion.
The Turbo mode for which I found that were a little too sharp pushed forward. Yet it is always the position that I used: I love sending heavy :)

    OVERALL OPINION

I used it when I started on guitar, coupled with OD1. It was the job of the distortion for my period "grunge".
This is a pedal with a value for money at the top, findable less than 40 €! It is given!
Relatively reliable pedal with a distortion supplied rather very decent for the price! To start in the world (more extensive) distos, I recommend!
It seems that the DS1 would be better. I do not pronocerai because I've never tried.

    SOUND QUALITY

You think it sounds "cool" but not at all. Connected with my Telecaster and my Hot Rod Deluxe it sounds nickel. Ideal for blues and rock and even grunge.
After I do not know any brands but this one is very good. Of course you can always do better but for the price it is nickel.

Artists, groups using this effects pedal: Nirvana, RHCP ...

The +: The ability to connect a switch, external footswitch, the FS-5L. History can diversify a sound. To go from blues to rock. Or if you prefer to spend a good solo arpeggio much tinsel.

The -: I admit that I use a little less since I have my Big Muff. But if anything to say on the pedal itself. Except maybe the color a bit bland, but it's detail.

    OVERALL OPINION

This is the first pedal I bought. Already 10 years ago and I do not think I ever sell. It's like a Swiss army knife for me. Even on the amps archi naz on which one plays when you start it sounded more rock already. Store and carry it with you when you do not help the distortion of the amplifier or other. In addition to the Cygnus can find cheap. Ideal for beginners.

It's perfect for all you "cool" kids in "punk" or grunge bands, cause you all suck and have no clue what tone is! So a perfect match for you if you fit under that description. If you are reading this, looking to buy the DS-2, that description is probably accurate for you. Or if you are a serious guitarist looking to see if this pedal truly is worth buying, DO NOT BUY IT!

    Nothing at all...

First off, this pedal is nowhere near as good as the DS-1, it can't even come close to how good the DS-1 is! The DS-1 is the best Boss distortion pedal ever made, you just need a quality guitar and amp to have it go to use to its full potential. Most reviewers say it is bad because the reviewers usually are the idiot musicians of today, I don't even want to call them musicians. They buy a cheap little Ibanez, BC Rich, or ESP guitar, play it through a little crappy 10 watt Crate amp, and expect to get a good sound. The DS-2 sounds terrible with a crap guitar and amp, even when using a quality guitar and amp this pedal still sounds like garbage. The distortion is really bad, Mode I is just a muddy, low tones distortion, not good for anything, and Mode II is a trebly, buzzing distortion. It literally sounds like Zzzzzz when trying to use it with the distortion anywhere after 12 o'clock. It's kind of like a very crappy fuzz pedal when the dist. is past 12 o'clock. Don't believe me, waste your time trying one out. This pedal is no good for soloing at all, it only works for baby power chords. Try to play a solo when using this pedal, it just doesn't work at all, sounds terrible when playing single notes, arpegios, solos, etc...

It is a Boss pedal, they are one of the best made pedals around. Last for years.

Everyone thinks since Kurt Cobain used this pedal, I will get his sound. I say, yes you can. He sucked on guitar, and his tone sucked. Luckily he had decent lyrics to back him up, but he was a pathetic guitar player. If you are looking to be in a punk band or grunge band, I do think this pedal will work out fine for you. But, if you are a serious musician who cares about your tone, go with something else. The DS-1 is a better choice than this pedal, no lie, get a DS-1 and get it modified by Keeley, you will have one of the best distortion pedals around.

I bought this pedal from my best friend for a very good cheap price. I paid 30 bucks for the pedal. The reason I bought it is because I needed a better sounding distortion than the one on my amp.

I like the pedal, very good pedal for those Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson, and Jason Becker tunes and its pretty good sounding when you have a loud amp like mine (Peavey Bandit 75)
the equalization is great on the pedal and its pretty good.

I use this pedal playing old Metallica stuff (requires a bit more lows on the amp) and even playing AC/DC stuff too. I think this pedal is cool for plaing in many styles. It also makes good solos with a reverber.

I bought this pedal new at Murch Music in Cambridge, Ontario for $120 Canadian (I could have gotten it for less if I had shopped around, but I was trading in a Dano pedal anyways).

Let's get one thing straight: this pedal is the best distortion pedal out there. There are so many settings (2 different distortion modes, yay!) that you can get anything from a slight overdrive to very heavy distortion. The DS-2 is best for punk, however. Another plus: you can also use it as a volume pedal for switching between rythym and lead volumes.

    Boss Turbo Distortion DS-2

I bought this used because I wanted a footswitch. It looks like a new and I got it for 50$ canadian.

It give a quite good distortion for music like Nirvana or punk music, since the pedal have two distortion modes which are very different. The change the distortion very much too.

One thing buy a power supply, thats the only thing which bugged me with the unit. Maybe the orange colour is too flashy but that is very important

The quality of the pedal is very good since boss pedals are build like a rock. I have no bad feeling about the construction of the unit.

Pdéale Distortion 2 modes, see previous opinions
I put 8 because they could always quibble over the fine adjustments

    UTILIZATION

It could not be simpler ... No need for manual
The transition between the two modes is done by the button or pedal switch to connect an external (optional)

    SOUND QUALITY

    I use a Gretsch 5120
Finally I use a low mode, which looks roughly speaking, a DS1. But it is fairly "flat" as distortion.

The method adds two frequencies (and edit sound, which can make good solos very smooth (you can even add a little overdrive before I do it with a vox big ben), it does the job.

I use it for a few days, but she conquered. I love this dual mode that allows you to switch between saturation "flat" to blend into the mix to a saturation that stands out for solos.
I like the second mode does not sizzle too and let sounds smooth.

I do not know if I would do this choice, I paid € 42 for OCCAZ, it will again. I will still try distos latest PowerStack like Boss, probably more versatile (the crunch of metal) and I hope with a warm sound distortion (tube type)
