The MXR M120 Auto-Q is a filter pedal for guitar that will give you an automatic wah-wah sound rather than the traditional manually controlled wah-wah pedal.  While there are way more parameters on this pedal than on a standard wah-wah pedal, I usually prefer wah-wahs because you have complete control over your signal.  This pedal has 1/4 inch connections and is powered by the power supply that comes with it.  This isn't a rack mountable piece of gear as it is a stomp box.

UTILIZATION

Using the MXR M120 Auto-Q is a fairly easy thing to do as the parameters are laid out smartly and easy to follow.  The pedal has parameters for range, Q, volume, decay, blend, and rate and also has a switch that allows you to choose between the three EQ bands of lo, mid, and high.  I've never had any problems getting the sounds that I would like out of this pedal and it is somewhat of a versatile pedal between all of the parameters.  I don't have the manual for the MXR M120 Auto-Q so I can't say how helpful it is or not, but the pedal is easy to use and you really don't need one if you don't already have one.

SOUND QUALITY

The sound quality heard from the MXR M120 Auto-Q is about average if not less than average.  I'm not a big fan of the way this pedal sounds mostly because of the tinniness and because even though it is versatile in terms of parameters, there are only so many uses I could find for this pedal.  The sound is pretty clean overall but I don't find myself using this all that much because I find that it isn't all that practical of an effect.

OVERALL OPINION

I can't really say that I would recommend picking up one of these pedals as I recommend getting a traditional wah-wah pedal over this if you are looking for some filtering.  This being said, this pedal can get some sounds that a standard wah-wah pedal cannot get and for this reason I would suggest checking it out for yourself to see if it fits your style and what you are trying to do.  Another thing that turns me off about this pedal is the price as I think it should be decently cheaper than it is.  If you are looking for a filter or wah or auto-Q pedal like this one I would recommend checking out a variety of types to see what will work best, but as far as the MXR M120 Auto-Q goes, it isn't too high up on my list.
