Hybrid Pre-amp from Sonic Farm

Canadian manufacturer Sonic Farm announces the release of two new 2-channel hybride tube preamps, the Berliner and Beamer.

Both Sonic Farm Berliner and Beamer preamps are 19“ 1U rack devices and accept mic and instrument signals. They are equipped with a pentode tube preamp circuit and input/output transformers. The hybrid design gives you the ability to choose between tube and solid-state output.

The Berliner is inspired on the famous Telefunken V76 from the 50s, with multiple enhancements, therefore it’s not a clone. It features the following:

  • 2-channel mic/line/instrument preamplifier
  • Variable gain stage with two EF86/EF806 vacuum tubes, regulated bias
  • Hybrid output stage with or without transformer
  • Front DI (instrument) input on each channel
  • Line inputs with tranformer
  • Impedance switch for the mic input: 900 Ohms, 10 k or 2.4 kOhms
  • DI input impedance: 3.9 MOhms
  • Balanced line input impedance: 15 kOhms
  • High and Low shelf boost
  • Frequency response: 10 Hz – 50 kHz ± 3 dB
  • Max input gains: 76 dB for the mic input and 50 dB for the line and instrument inputs
  • Gain range: 36.7 dB for the mic input and pad for additional +10 dB
  • Balanced mic input and output
  • Unbalanced 1/4“ mono instrument input
  • 2 types of combinable transformers: Ni-Fe alloy or pure steel
  • Power supply: 115 V AC or 220–240 V AC (must be specified when ordering)
  • Other input impedances available, must be specified when ordering

The Berliner preamp is available for CAD $2,850.

The Beamer combines one channel of The Berliner and a channel of The Creamer, another hybrid preamp from Sonic Farm, so you get two preamp flavors and colors. You’ll find on this model microphone and instrument inputs only, the line inputs were removed in order to reduce the costs, pricing of this model being CAD $2,450.

Specifications:

  • 2 mic/DI (instrument) channels
