Phil_Guitar's review (Ibanez - AF75D)

By Phil_Guitar, 12/12/2009
These guitars are made in China.

Ibanez link :
http://www.ibanez.com/HollowBodyGuitars/model-AF75D

Set-in <span>Mahogany Neck with <span>Bound Rosewood</span> <span>Fingerboard, 22</span></span> frets, the neck joins the guitar body at the 14th fret.

<span>Maple plywood on the top, back and sides </span>(most hollow-body archtop guitars have bodies made of plywood, even really expensive models from well known brands).

2 Humbuckers and a "standard" configuration for the electronic (2 Volume pots, 2 Tone pots, 1 Switch 3positions).

Fully adjustable archtop type bridge.

UTILIZATION

This guitar is really a great well built quality instrument, no doubt about it.
It requires a bit heavier string gauges to start sounding perfectly (10 - 52, or heavier).

The neck is a "REAL BEAUTY" by itself, a bit like an excellent version of a Speed-Taper neck ... really nice and easy to play.
The access to the bottom of the neck isn't too easy mainly because of this type of "Gretsch 6120" single cut-away and a body which is rather deep, but it is in favour of the general acoustic sound of the guitar which by the way is quite good for such a hollow-body type electric guitar.
The guitar doesn't weigh much, just fine for the shoulders.

The pickups are 2 good humbuckers, not too powerful. They have a nice, precise and cool jazz sound, with a pinch of acoustic sound (surely because of the metallic pickup covers which vibrates with the body and work a little bit like microphones).
This guitar has a GREAT JAZZ SOUND.

---------------------------------------------

Now, if you like to customize your guitars like I do, you can have a real Gretsch like sounding guitar for very little money by replacing the pickups with 2 TV-Jones.
<span style="color: #336699;">http://www.tvjones.com/pickups/tvclassic.html</span> ( http://www.tvjones.com/pickups/tvclassic.html )

By adding these following features you'll soon have a "MUST" to play with :
Bigsby B6
<span style="color: #336699;">http://www.bigsbyguitars.com/vibe/?page_id=145</span> ( http://www.bigsbyguitars.com/vibe/?page_id=145 )
Schaller Locking Tuners

ABM TUNAMATIC Roller Bridge
<span style="color: #336699;">http://www.abmmueller.de/index2.html</span> ( http://www.abmmueller.de/index2.html )
GRAPHITE Compensated Nut

I also added big golden volume and tone knobs, cut a gold painted translucid pickguard and finally repainted the headstock for the "decoration". OOOOooooh !!!

SOUNDS

To play Jazz, Blues, Rock'n'Roll and Rock'a'Billy, it is really a great guitar.

With transistor amps you'll get beautiful clean Jazz sounds, with tube amps you'll have great Blues and Rock'n'Roll tones.
Now, if you add the TV-Jones pickups you'll get into heaven.

This guitar will "naturally" feedback with crunchy tones, which can lead to wonderful sustains if you know how to control a feedback.

OVERALL OPINION

This guitar is a "MUST" !!!
I had (from a famous brand of guitars) a cheap version of a well know Rock'a'Billy guitar that I had equipped with 2 TV-Jones.
But, the guitar didn't sound, the neck had the shape of a baseball bat and was hard to play ... the only cool thing about this one was the name of the brand on the headstock (not enough for me, sorry !!!).
So, as soon as I discovered the IBANEZ AF-75D TOR, I sold the (recent) old damn peace of wood and I bought the IBANEZ AF-75D TOR on which I installed the TV-Jones.

For that little money it is barely impossible to get anything of that great quality (Thanks to the Chinese luthiers !!! These friendly guys RULE !!!).

Here is the Web-Page where I roughly documented the "FABULOUS" transformations that I did on my beatiful IBANEZ AF75DTOR :

Ibanez Artcore AF75 (Ibanez - AF75D)

By MGR/jeremy, 09/03/2004
I bought this guitar from a locale music store here in baton rouge, la called Live Music. They gave me a good price for it. I bought it for $300 and i also got an amp, strap, cord and picks for only $75 more. I'm a beginner and wanted something not too cheap, but something that would keep me wanting to play.

the sound is great and easy to play. It has a wide neck, so for a beginner with fat fingers, its been easier for me to play.

there's not too much i dont like, only that it didnt come with a case.

Its constructed very well and finish is beautiful (vintage sunburst).

Very good guitar for beginners, intermediates or someone on a budget. i would recommend it to anyone.

Phil_Guitar's review (Ibanez - AF75D)

By Phil_Guitar, 16/07/2007
Ibanez AF-75D TOR "Design".

Channel al Mahogany with a twist "Rosewood", 22 frets, fitting to the body at the 14ME fret, with "binding" (contours) and "perl inlay" (marking). Graphite nut (self-lubricating) compensated (the Sol and Si).
Maple body.
2 humbuckers "TV-Jones" Chroms. 1 potentiomtre issue Gnral (on the plate). 2 potentiometers of Tones (1 micro). 1 potentiomtre balance (between the neck pickup and the bridge pickup). 1 Switch 3 positions Standard configuration. 1 Mini-Switch BOOST (2 microphones SERIES).
Floating bridge like "archtop" "bearings".
Bigsby vibrato.
Mcaniques lock (locking receivers) chrome.

USE

Nothing to say.
Handle very pleasant, slightly thick profile rather large button.
The access to acute is not very comfortable because of the thickness of the body and the pan shot that is not very pronounced.

SONORITS

Perfect tool for Rock'n'Roll, Rock'a'Billy, Country, Blues, Jazz.
This type of instrument "half box" is not really designed for sonorits "ultra-saturated" high volume, the feedback in these extreme conditions becomes difficult contrlable.

NOTICE GLOBAL

Guitar LOOK INFERNO, and exceptional sonorits.
A REAL "MUST".

Faber_FDM's review (Ibanez - AF75D)

By Faber_FDM, 27/12/2005
Hollow Body Guitar, manufactures in China. 22 frtes. Four knobs (2 volumes / 2 tonalities). Slecteur three position. up originally with two humbuckers. Mahogany al.
Frankly, aa beautiful future of China is when even a great job. The varnish finishes are impeccable (two three dtails nearly as dfonce the junction of the body and the handle, maybe not great). She's still beautiful even with an orange head exchange varnish according to the light (from brown to red). Everyone loves it. This is when even rather amazing, that price l.

USE

The handle parat me very pleasant. The guitar is downright trslgre, perhaps a bit too, so, it looks a little stick side, if allowed to leave. Nevertheless, the ergonomics are perfect, it is perhaps not ecstasy from the perspective of access to acute, but hey, in general, it is not for leads the Malmsteem that buys this kind of guitars, right ??
The strings are too soft with books. Go for at least 10-49 or for the flat net (11-50).

SONORITS

At the sound, I will not say much, because I changed the very vites microphones (I wanted the P-90 and the passage I suggest very strong 90 Dream Guitar F tish). Only prevents the two Humbucker original livrs trsrs are good in their genre. with a large output level, they are very quilibrs, perhaps a little lacking in personality but they are perfect with some effects and very very well support the distortion. One can perfectly use for rock. For my part, I opt for something with very clear microphones, little versatile, but perfectly vintage.

NOTICE GLOBAL

I've had a few weeks, and frankly I immediately knew that he c'tait guitar Fallit me. For 350 euros, it has exceptional quality guitar, which asks that be appropriate. Change the microphones, test DIFFERENT String Sets, test with the DIFFERENT amps DIFFERENT effects, it does not dcevra you. I played on a lot of frankly more chres guitars, and I have never had as much fun.
