Kramer Baretta SpecialPublished on 11/20/16 at 14:59
Which amplifier and/or effect(s) do you use with this guitar? What playing and musical style(s) do you play with this guitar?

I've used it with my trusted Marshall MG and a 5-watt Kustom Defender head, mainly for heavy rock, punk, grunge...

What are your thoughts on the workmanship, electronics, and finish of this instrument? How is its intonation? Does its neck, touch, feel, shape, etc complement your playing style?

Excellent workmanship, could be called flawless for such a price! Perfect fretwork, painting is great, unflawed finish. The satin-finish neck is a real highway, large enough and rather flat. The tuners are not bad, they stay well in tune. As for the vibrato - well,...…

As for the vibrato - well, that's the guitar's weaker point: don't use it, keep il locked with 4 springs - or, change it.

Do clean, crunchy and distorted sounds adapt well to different microphone positions? Are the guitar's different frequencies and sounds well-balanced?

No idea for the original pickup... I read so many bad things about it that I changed it straight away for a GFS Crunchy Pat, which does marvel on this guitar for a mere 25 bucks. On a sidenote the original knob is great, very progressive - it's only a "mere" Alpha, though.

It really sounds wonderful!!! Unbelievable for such a price! Many other brands should take example on this.

It really sounds 80s-ish. I actually didn't want to equip it with too heavy-sounding a mic, so as to keep a certain versatility, and the possibility to get great crunch sounds. Well, that's perfect!
I believe an SD SH4 would suit it perfectly, but the Crunchy Pat is perfect for me.
Please note that the sustain is very good, in spite of the bolt-on neck.

What are the pros and cons of this guitar?

Pros: its look, simplicity, overall quality, value-for-money, the feeling of getting a great deal, its lightness, sound...

Cons: the vibrato - which is a vibrato in name only, but that should be no surprise for such a price... Almost worthy of having a Floyd set in, even without a locking nut. Anyway, I'm not a great vibrato fan...

For such a price, there's not much to say except "THANK YOU"!

I REALLY wonder how they manage to do it... Oh, yeah, I know: it's all "made in Indonesia"...
