Monitoring calibration software from Sonarworks

Last year, Sonarworks debuted a calibration system for studio monitors. They introduce this year at NAMM the same concept for headphones.

The Sonarworks Headphone Calibration system relies on a plug-in that offers different headphone “profiles” (response curves) that you can change to modify the audio result in your headphones. You can then mix with headphones with a flatter response or charge specific profiles and get an idea of what your audience would hear in the headphones or monitors.

The list of response curves is not exhaustive but Sonarworks says that you can send them your headphones, the team will analyze it and will send it back with a custom curve. We suppose they will take advantage of this analysis to add the new curves to their database, which already features 7 profiles from AKG and Sennheiser headphones, among others.

The headphone calibration plug-in is available in VST, AU, AAX native and RTAS formats for Mac OS X and Windows. You can download a 21-day trial version or buy a license for the introductory price of 35 € for a limited time, final price will then be 70 €. Each additional license will have a price of 20 €.

Sonarworks also offers bundles with a choice of AKG K712 Pro (395 €), Sony MDR-7506 (145 €) or Superlux HD681 (32,50 €), the plug-in and a specific calibration profile.

Visit sonarworks.com for further details about this new calibration system.
