DigiTech Whammy 5

Whammy version # 5 of this "unique" pedal.
Digital technology, with expression pedal.
There are so many methods available that I do not dwell on the detail (I encourage you to go to the site for any digitech accurate description), you will find all the modes that have contributed to its success.

The mods compared to the old version:
- There are more output dry / wet, as in the old version (4) personally it does not bother me (for those who would need this option, you must use a blender before whammy .. )
- Adding a "chords" mode, or polyphonic mode, which allows not to have the phenomenon of "shivering" when playing multiple notes at the same time: this phenomenon was present in previous models, and it can like or do not like, that's everyone who sees ^ ^
There seems to be a phenomenon of light compression on the signal in this mode "chords", but I did not find it really annoying in my use.
It will still always the possibility of using the Whammy in a "non-polyphonic" mode, with the sound characteristic. Let me add that shivering in "standard" mode seems a little less pronounced than it was on the 4 (but the difference is not really huge).
- A "useful" power passing 800mA AC (previously requested) to a supply of about 275 mA 9v DC (if I remember correctly), and I can assure you that it changes life!
No more worries transformer old, I fed on 1 of the 2 outputs of my standard power supply and basta!
- Still red but less firecracker: I think the report on the 5 is a little less plastoc '
- Some say the difference in placement of the LED, for me it does not matter.
- Passage of a "crappy" bypass on the 4 to a true bypass on version 5 (finally!).

UTILIZATION

Use in moderation: D Too whammy can give nausea: D
I have not read the manual (there was one?) But it seems relatively simple mode is selected (standard or chords), mode (2, -1 +2 etc etc ...) and the dosage is managed with the expression pedal ...

SOUND QUALITY

The effects are Whammy style (you will not be surprised: D)
I do not use the whammy on electric guitars, almost always in standard mode, and especially I use modes (+1 -1, -1, +1, +2), almost never the other.

OVERALL OPINION

Used for about 2 months.
I bought an earlier version 4 modée in true bypass. The mod did not take at all, so rather than buy a secondhand modée I could, given my sporadic use, I preferred to go on a new (since prices have not hurt declined in recent weeks), which also allows me to have a guarantee in case of trouble (maybe this is silly but these pedals electronic stuffed, I do not have much confidence ... If you put 150 € it rip and that after 18 months ...).
Since the modes I use are always the same, and that I not serve a lot of the expression pedal, I preferred this model directly from there and not another.
In view of the possibilities of the pedal, there is little doubt that one does not put all the sauces, some love it, others do not, again I am not here to judge.
Combined with the power supply which has become the "standard", a color slightly less firecracker and since
I do not have the possibility of dry-wet, so I went and I do not regret it at all!
If it breaks I bought!

This is version 5.0 of this pedal whose concept has more than twenty years.
The positive news are true bypass and supply 9v DC in 275 m / a.
the novelty that is indifferent to me what this mini switch that goes from a "classic" mode to "chords" mode.
negative news is the suppression of the dry output and placement of the led.

UTILIZATION

This is the third generation whammy passing under my feet. And removing the dry output was a blessing in disguise, because the views of my former routing, this output was vital to me and to find the effects of blend, I did purchased a fabulous X-blender. But back to the whammy that true bypass awfully secures the reliability of the signal.
And the passage in DC 9V finally allows not lugging this p "" "" transformer of my c "" "" "".
My 8 pedals on the same Tranfo: a boss PSA 500 m / a, and here is the dream!
Yes the led is actually misplaced! But I survive. And I removed the plastic potentiometer as it rose too high and my clumsy awkward walk will again this year.

SOUND QUALITY

Well it's the whammy then it is null and awesome at once. The sound is full of defects that the true bypass makes a Secure fragile signal. The "chords" mode will erase the worries may be some guitarists, but I much prefer the cheap side of the "classic" mode.

OVERALL OPINION

This is the effect of my life. And I need fresh blood because I kill my whammy one after the other I bought this one just to have a spare, but no longer have to make the true bypass modification and passage 9V DC represents a real plus.
After I must admit that the Canadian manufacturing was a certain charm. But we are in 2014 and I have a new Whammy.

the possibility of past or not in polyphonic and some aditional fashion.

So there! I must say that quite a guitarist wanted a pedal like this, a whammy that does not answer polyphonic true bypass of 9 v continuous

The true bypass is in principle are either work ...
But in past polyphonic sound itself is altered (there is compression of the signal), therefore it is preferred to normal with the notes that picks dear to a lot of people. visue in competition there is a lack of material (organic) on this pedal ... there is no button wet dry mix signal: it would great.


For my part I have a whammy 4 change in true bypass, well I feel I'll keep it for a while yet as compared with the whammy 5 there is no real change of extraordinary or unusual developments!

Competition is seen as far .... So you see and play with your ears! (By the way the power supply sector and the form of quit ... so yes it is!)

OVERALL OPINION

Test in store



+ True bypass power supply and basta!

- Signal quality in polyphonic
- Placement of normal switch / polyphonic
- No possibility to update
- Quality of power supply in quit (getting better)

If you do not have a good whammy the whammy will do 5
If you modify the whammy 4 true bypass advice: keep away.

. mode "chords" polyphonic. although less organic than Pog (from what I heard) sounds here!
. greater respect for your sound origne

. self calibration (not a big plus this is new to stress anyway)
. a more discreet red (!)

. still no possibility to switch quickly to the foot and two preset modes. output a "remote" will welcome
. mode "classic" not so classic here, dropping notes is not as pronounced compared to previous versions
. LED indicator was well above, why did you put near the switch? You must remove his foot to see now
