Different kind of pedal

Boss MZ-2 Digital MetalizerPublished on 07/28/11 at 11:34
This is an interesting pedal. This pedal is both analog and also digital. The pedals basically has two different circuits inside of it. The analog circuit is for the distrortino and overdrive of the pedal. The digital is for the chorus and the delay circuit. So that is the reason for the two outputs as well. You have an output for the digital and for the analog.

The MZ-2 has 6 different modes. Straight distortion, distortion/delay (3 modes) and distortion/chorus (2 modes). The MZ-2 hasn't really change throughout its existence. SOUND QUALITY

The sound quality is pretty good for this pedal. It still is a pedal distortion show you won't have that feel and gain saturation you would get from tube valves but it is great to have built in chorus and delays.

This pedal goes well in front of an amp and even an already over driven amp. If you have a Marshall JCM800 that has a little hair on it already just throw this pedal in front and then you will be golden to get those cool 809's hair metal tones. This will boost those preamps signals so that you are getting that sizzle and the chorus beefs up the tone as well. The two effects of chorus and delay help to beef up the tone quiet a bit and was a trick that players in the 80's would do to beef up the tone. This pedal has it all in one pedal which is very cool and convenient.

OVERALL OPINION

This pedal has been discontinued now for a long time. The manufacturing stopped back in 1991. So you can still find these pedal on the classifieds or on ebay from time to time. I have seen them go for right around $90+ or -. They can be had pretty cheaply and they are fun to play around with. I prefer them as a boost pedal so that you mix e the tubes of your amp and the sizzle and effects of this pedal.

This is an analog distortion pedal Boss carrying a digital processor for chorus and delay not separable from the distortion effect.
The mono signal is routable in two mono outputs out.
It's 9 V DC for the 70 m / s.

UTILIZATION

A level, a tone and a drive. It will all understand! There just has a fourth mode. One without additional effects, three small delays and two colorful chorus.

SOUND QUALITY

For distortion analog part is still in the classic Boss. To know that people who do not like the look of his electric shaver classify the Boss MZ-2 in the same category as all her sisters and regardless of the color of their boxes. One could even say that the Digital Metalizer pedal...…

To know that people who do not like the look of his electric shaver classify the Boss MZ-2 in the same category as all her sisters and regardless of the color of their boxes. One could even say that the Digital Metalizer pedal is paradigm of this family of Japanese buzzantes.
But some alchemists and not more left found fantastic uses Boss distortion pedals, but it takes time and tube amps carefully selected. Marriage JCM 800 and DS1 is such a marvel.
I use it as is with my bass and I am a fan of the chorus mode 1, the distortion thoroughly, I found a fake and delicious side, halfway between Beastie Boys and Daft Punk.

OVERALL OPINION

As such, the MZ-2 is often very hard to use. And yet it is the cheap side which returned to my mind like a dream. Because I have owned this pedal in the past, then resold to not to burn at the stake of my purism of the time. I bought last year and it was the solution to the specific sound I wanted for my bass in my new musical project.
I need it in a spare ...

Very interesting, unknown

I was a bit skeptical on the name of the pedal, "Digital Metalizer" it seemed little shops.
I do not know what the audience at the output of the product was but I think it really should not stop with the name.
In theory it includes several pedals in one: analog distortion, "dou" is a short delay and chorus. If I understand correctly, except for the distortion is the digital. The chorus does not sound like her sisters or CE2 CE3.

UTILIZATION

Purchased used, without manual obviously, for once it might have been useful but not essential. I quickly found very convincing sounds distortion. I am a little fun with the other effects. Except on very targeted piece, I think they serve me...…

SOUND QUALITY

The distortion is the strong point of this pedal. Perfectly usable. Other effects seem a bit gimmicky but not uninteresting. The potential "downside" is the digital effects, clearly worse than the distortion. The chorus seemed little typed compared to my boss CE3.

OVERALL OPINION

I bought a few months ago, mainly out of curiosity, for the rarity, the look and because I found in it (too) expensive.
I still watched several videos on Youtube to realize the sonic possibilities. Tested with Epiphone Les Paul korea, Jackson King V ToneZone / Seymour Duncan SH2 and Jackson RR, Hughes & Kettner amp on attax 100. I'm not disappointed.
This pedal is unknown (blame his strange name?), It a terrible look and sound great in the distortion mode, usable and easy to adjust. I consider the other effects as a bonus.

Finally I used more often than my DS1 and DS2 Metal Zone. It is very hard to find, sometimes it is proposed a predatory pricing, as is often the pedals made in japan. The price of the scarcity surely. It's a shame because it would allow more people to test it.

Pedal-selling 1987 1992 up, rather rare nowadays. APRS via the manufacturer, the distortion is cre from an analog circuit, while the delay and chorus with a digital chip. See here ( http://www.bossarea.com/loadpage.asp?file=boxes/mz2.xml ) for more dtails.

UTILIZATION

Extremely simple, like the vast majority of Boss pedals. The manual is completely useless my eyes. The rglages are very intuitive, no problem at this level.

SOUND QUALITY

I play on a Japanese reissue Stratocaster, a Fender amp (a transistor), and I confess that I am really bluff by the potential of this pedal. The distortion is rather basic, but very effective. Perfect for playing rock exprimental, rock "basic" or...…

SOUND QUALITY

I play on a Japanese reissue Stratocaster, a Fender amp (a transistor), and I confess that I am really bluff by the potential of this pedal. The distortion is rather basic, but very effective. Perfect for playing rock exprimental, rock "basic" or the blues. David Gilmour of Pink Floyd has used on "Sorrow", I expected to have only the sound and I was wrong. This pedal is very versatile. According rglages, one can easily get a good warm overdrive, a clear and specific on disto ... on the other hand, unlike what one might think, I do not think she's been planned to the metal and other nag. It is far from being a metal or a Fuzz-Zone!

I have not found any useful ral delay and chorus. I use a Boss RV-3 at the same time for a Lger delay and I do not need choruses. These two effects reprsentent Plutt gadget in my opinion but we must be able to take something very correct though.

OVERALL OPINION

I test several Fuzz, a Little Big Muff, a Dynadrive before buying it, I think it suits my style of play better I like the possibility to obtain an overdrive and a quality without any distortion problem. This pedal has great potential and can fit any style of play relatively calm. You just have to find its own rglages.

Buy 80 (including postage) on the internet, I do it again this choice without a doubt. In addition, I love her look red and black, very class!
