« Same thing as the OD100 »

This is, again, just a ripoff of the Boss OD-2. It contains both overdrive and distortion, and you can combine the two different sounds with a single knob. There's a level, tone, color and drive knob.

UTILIZATION

Unlike the Boss counterparts, I'm not exactly sure how well these will stand up to touring. Where as the Boss products are known to be able to survive a nuclear holocaust, this pedal is still new. The casing itself isn't too bad, and it seems like it could take some abuse without much of an issue. It's ridiculously easy to set up, and you shouldn't even need to read the manual as to how to run this thing. That said, I have never read the actual manual, so I can't comment as to how well it's written.

SOUND QUALITY

The pedal itself is interesting in that it combines both overdrive and distortion circuits via a unique "color" knob. The color knob allows you to dial in the amount of overdrive or distortion you're looking for, and this is separate from the gain control. The sound is not too bad. It can boost an amp nicely, but I find that each setting is a compromise. The pedal can be a bit boxy sounding in stock form, and that's one of the biggest problems I have with it. When it's on, it has that kind of pedal sound and feel. Some might like it, but I never could jive with it enough to add it to my rig.

OVERALL OPINION

This is really just the same thing as the OD100. I'm not sure why the OD100 was discontinued, but maybe it had to do with reliability or something like that. If you're a fan of the Boss OD-2 pedal, you'll probably like this pedal. The build quality on these can be a bit shoddy, but considering what you get for the price, it's not too bad. It's worth at least checking out for the unique color knob.
