Robert Keeley has modified the circuit of his Red Dirt overdrive pedal for guitar to add a germanium transistor, among other changes.
Robert Keeley explains that he managed to get a variable gain on different parts of the frequency response, with the volume control gently cleaning the sound while retaining punchy bass as well as good sustain and saturation on the mids and highs.
The Red Dirt Germanium is available in two editions: the first 50 models feature a top mounted Germanium transistor and retail for $229. The rest of the series will have this transistor back into the box, so it won’t be visible, and will have a lower price of $219. You can still order the top-mounted version at robertkeeley.com.
