Apora is a new UK company that debuted at NAMM this year to introduce two hybrid processors for the studio.

Apora is starting its activities with the Grandiose preamp and the Behemoth Pultec-type EQ. Both modules are rackable and feature two channels, a fully analog tube circuit and digital control, directly from the machine or remotely via Ethernet on a Mac or PC (a microprocessor is included). They also include a 99-bank memory to store the setting locally, you can also send the presets to your computer.

Quality has been thought to the most detail, all the components are top notch, silent and long life guaranteed.

Specifications of the Grandiose:

  • 2-channel tube preamp
  • 4 ECC82/12AU7 vacuum tubes
  • –6 dB input pad to choose between a series or parallel transformer connection
  • 10-step input level knob to set the gain of the first tube stage and control the signal level that will drive the preamp
  • 63-step output level that attenuates the signal sent to the second tube stage
  • Gain: 62 dB minimum, 65 dB nominal (depends on the tube select)
  • 48 V phantom power switch
  • High-pass filter at 150 or 300 Hz
  • Polarity switch that affects the output transformer stage
  • Ground lift on both input and output
  • Hi-Z switch to enable the 1/4” front jack inputs
  • Rear XLR connections
  • Ethernet 10/100Base-T port
  • 19” 3U rack format

Details of the Behemoth:

  • Two-channel EQ inspired by the Pultec EQP-1A, HLF-3C and MEQ-5
  • 2 ECC82/12AU7 and 2 ECC83/12AX7 vacuum tubes
  • Ability to link the channels for a true stereo operation, and use the controls of only one channel ; it’s also possible to link only part of the settings
  • Low-frequency section with separate or simultaneous boost and attenuation on 6 different frequencies from 20 Hz to 120 Hz in 0.5 dB steps ; +14 dB gain boost and –17 dB attenuation
  • Mid section with attenuation of 24 frequencies (16 accessible on the front panel) from approximately 250 Hz to 6.5 kHz in 0.3 dB steps with Q control
  • High frequency block split into 2 Boost and Cut sections that can operate separately: +18 dB high boost gain with 27 possible frequencies (16 accessible on the front panel) from approximately 500 Hz to 16 kHz in 0.6dB steps with Q control ; –10 dB high cut on 6 frequencies from 4 kHz to 18 kHz in 0.3 dB steps
  • Ground Lift on both input and output
  • EQ curve bypass
  • Rear XLR connections
  • Ethernet 10/100Base-T port
  • 19” 4U rack format
