[NAMM] Mesanovic ribbon microphones

Mesanovic was at Summer NAMM 2014 where he introduces two passive ribbon microphones designed to combine the good of both condenser and ribbon mics.

The Model 1 includes a motor that, according to the manufacturer, has a very short front-to-back path and is covered with brass for enhanced resistance. The aluminum ribbon has dimensions of 1.8micron thick, 2” long and 0.23” large.

The Model 1 polar pattern is Figure 8 (bidirectional), frequency response announced is 20Hz – 20kHz, sensitivity is –50.8dB (3mV/Pa) and the self noise level in inferior to 17dB A.

The Mesanovic Model 1 is available for $499 or $974.99 in pairs. It ships in a wooden case with a shockmount.

The Model 2 is an improved version of the Model 1, in a much slimmer design. The aluminum ribbon has the same dimensions as the one in the Model 1, and the front-to-back path is said to be much shorter. This mic uses custom resonator plates and Samar Audio Design toroidal transformer. The frequency response, according to Mesanovic, is extended in the low-end, the mic gives “air” in the high-end and the mediums are similar to other ribbon mics. This model is recommended for any type of instrument, including guitar amps, drums, pianos, brass or vocals.

The Model 2 mic has a unit price of $649.99 or $1249.99 when sold in stereo matching pair. Its ships in a padded rigid case with an isolating support.
