Thread Simmons Portakit Dynamics not working well

Hi !!!!
I am new here. Have a Simmons Portakit. After it is turned on (connected via midi to a sound source and having external SDS9 pads connected to it) I start playing and works well.
After a while, sometimes 1 minute or 2, the dynamics of external pads are lost, meaning, light strokes on an external pad, work well but as I increase force gradually, the Portakit triggers the equivalent of a very heavy strike, distorting sound on the drums sound source.
Have to turn off and back on to reset it. Currently configured to defaults (dynamic curve 5 and min=12 for all pads).
The interesting point here is that it only happens with external pads. Internal pads work well all the time.
Any idea or clue as to what could be happening will be greatly appreciated.
