Meris is a young Californian company that debuted last year with audio modules in Lunchbox format.

The first module launched by Meris is the 440 analog mic preamp designed specially to capture guitar amps.

The module is equipped with discret op-amps and input and output Cinemag transformers for a pure classic US sound. It also features a 12 dB/octave high-pass filter with a choice of 80 Hz and 200 Hz frequencies, a 20 dB pad, phase reverse and phantom power switches, and Meris adds that you can interface it with your effect pedals.

A few numbers:

  • Input gain up to 60 dB
  • Output trim from –27 dB to +12 dB (before the output transformer)
  • ±3 dB high-shelf boost at 4 kHz or 7 kHz
  • Frequency response: 20 Hz – 20 kHz (±3 dB) when all filters are disables
  • 1 MOhm impedance at the Return/DI Input
  • Equivalent Input Noise: –130 dB A-weighted

The 440 Mic Pre retails for $549.

Meris will also launch this Spring a bit crusher, decimator and “chaotic” effect module called Ottobit, ideal for classic video game sound fans, with the following features:

  • Bit crusher and sample rate decimator
  • Ring modulator with pitch tracking
  • Envelope retrigger and LFO modifiers controlled by tap tempo
  • Multiple waveforms for the ring modulator and LFO
  • Ring/AM/FM modulations that can be blended
  • Analog signal path and 24-bit DA/AD converter with 32-bit floating DSP

Both devices are designed and built in Los Angeles, CA. Discover Meris at www.meris.us.
