Maple fretboard model

Jackson Dinky ReversePublished on 07/24/11 at 22:39
The Dinky Reverse was a cool model that came in two different configuration. This particular guitar has the following specs:

Basswood body
Maple bolt-on neck
Maple fretboard with 24 jumbo frets
HH configuration
No binding
Jackson licensed floyd rose
Offset dot inlays
Three way switch
Master volume and master tone knobs

UTILIZATION

First of all, the guitar looks great. It has a more unique finish than what's normally found on a lot of Jacksons. There is a plain rosewood model of this, but this one really stands out when compared to the rest of the line up, especially during this period of time. UTILIZATION

First of all, the guitar looks great. It has a more unique finish than what's normally found on a lot of Jacksons. There is a plain rosewood model of this, but this one really stands out when compared to the rest of the line up, especially during this period of time. The frets were pretty decent on this, but the neck pocket had a bit of a gap. It could potentially hinder tone and string alignment, so I'd pay close attention to what while buying these. I'm also not a fan of the floyd that's on this. it's really cheap, and I find that it doesn't feel nearly as good as the original floyd rose. If you're going to keep this, I recommend replacing it with the original or a Gotoh version.

SOUNDS

The guitar sounded decent. The stock bridge pickup lacked some of that note clarity that some of the higher quality pickups tend to have. It wasn't too bright thanks to the basswood body, but it did have a ton of midrange which may or may not be what you're looking for. The high gain tones were very average, and the clean tones sounded a bit dull. The neck pickup was decent, but I found that it lacked note clarity during those fast shred lines. If you're going to keep this, I recommend checking out something like the DiMarzio Breeds. Those should help make this guitar really come alive.

OVERALL OPINION

The guitar looks awesome, and it felt pretty nice. A good setup and a pickup swap should make this guitar a great contender for some of those other cheap LTDs out there. You can get a great deal on these on the used market, so I recommend searching eBay and the discussion forums out there for the best possible deal.
