I record acoustic (chorus, strings) and I was looking for a headphone suitable for a mobile configuration.

The first listening are disappointing. The 7506 was clearly not a linear response with a nice bump around 10kHz. The bass is present and the medium firm but too much behind. Listen to music on this thing is frankly not pleasant.

But ...

In taking its position, defects 7506 make it a formidable tool to track the breath. Brightness in the acute is an asset to detect misplacement of microphones, wind, hissing, noise and all are very well highlighted.

In addition, the headphones are lightweight, comfortable to wear and well insulated, an indispensable feature live.

Finally, the 7506 is compact when folded, really does not take place. And it supports quite well the abuse. In short, an ideal partner when mobility account.

Finally, yet with a nice and its not really fair, this headphone is a great tool for the soundman nomad. I care.

The Sony MDR 7506 headphones suited me perfectly when I was using them. I say “when” because I was using them a long time ago. One thing that I liked most about them was of comfortable they where. The really fit around my hears really nice and have a soft feel to them. They sounded pretty good to, not good enough for me to mix in though. But they where great just for listening to music in, or maybe use them as some sort of a reference.

The sound of them is pretty basic, most headphones exaggerate either the hi or the low end. This where pretty even throughout. They are also pretty loud, so if you like your music loud these will fit you just right, I personally really don’t like my music too loud, don’t want to damage my ears!

The cord that’s connected to them can really be stretched out , they are almost like the old stereo headphones from back in the 80’s and early 90’s that had the real long bungy type of cord that could stretch across the room. I am pretty sure you need to purchase an adadpter with these though, it doesn’t come with the ¼ inch plug on the end. Most all mp3 players on the market today are ¼ inch females (ins) .

Overall, nothing really bad to say about these. I wouldn’t mix in them or monitor my own music in them. I used them for listening pleasure only and they served just that. They are great for just everyday listening very comfortable. When I did try to mix in them my mix wasn’t good at all. But the good thing is they are cheap and you can or you could get them almost anywhere. Not too sure if they are still being sold in radio shack and such stores here in the US. But for the right price, buy them.

Almost 10 years of good and loyal service in my studio, and always in good shape except the atria that are beginning to acknowledge the blow, but hey, like any good professional studio headphones that respect, I am possibility of change. Otherwise the build quality one would expect from such a product is by appointment. It is foldable, comes with a soft case and an adapter mini-jack/jack 6.35.
I used a lot of conventional headphones can usually be found in the studio: AKG, Sennheiser, Beyer Dynamic, Sony, Shure Audio Technica and other (rare these last two), each with their specific features (taken or monitoring), but if it comes to the monitoring accurately (I did not say the mix, it is said often enough, mix in the headphones is heresy, and even unconsciousness. Unless you want to become deaf before the hour), then the Sony MDR7506 IMHO wins the prize. Its qualities make it an analytical tool that over time becomes essential. It does not flatter, it reproduces what is recorded and that's all we ask him! Said like that, it sounds simple, but ultimately it is not so common as that. Be careful with the volume of use as it is able to send a very strong and listening can be considered "hard", it occasioned a tired relatively limited. In this regard, I could test the (more expensive) big brother in the band, MDR7509, and I would say it is certainly less tiring, less analytical, but also more high-flying HiFi in fact. In direct comparison is obvious, one of you makes it all beautiful (the 7509) while the other points to you the details, the errors (7506), what a tool!
Defects at the menus I could find him:
- A concern that I meet with the vast majority of headphones in terms of physical comfort, after a while, a rather unpleasant pressure is felt in the cartilage of my ears causing an inconvenience to some but not prohibitive, and this chapter 7506 is far from being the worst for me.
- The cable is not removable, although it has never been a problem, it's nice to know that you can easily change it without sending it for repairs.
In short. For me and the use I make, the price / quality ratio is excellent, especially after having tried the cars, I still have not found its equivalent anywhere else! So yes, I would do this choice, if indeed it is still in the catalog, which seems to be the case. Too bad. It only remains to hope that the new range is of the same ilk.

How long have you use it?

I use this monitoring headphones for two years, only in home studio, connected to my Fireface 400. I work in Logic or Reason 9, no monitor speakers while the headphones. For production work / sound is really great. For mixing on the other hand, I think it is necessary to work with speakers in front, for reasons of distance and balance.

Have you tried many other models before buying it?

No, I followed my instinct and reputation of the said equipment.

What is so special that you love the most, least?

The +: Its neutrality and sound quality
The -: No - located in two years, no degradation of the material.

Absolutely yes.

I just bought this headphone from QLQ months.
I also possde a Sennheiser HD 600 and I had a second headphone for working as a duo. Trs good quality price ratio (111).
Trs comfortable and lightweight it allows for a MUCH Fidler and quite firm.
Do not too tired for a long time.
A little more than accents in mdiums Db and over the Sennheiser HD-600 but this is very good.
One small dark spot is at the level of the cord, it is quite Gnant (type softphone) t prfrable he would have a single cable.
Also convenient connection of a single cable ct headphone which allows prs can hang it everywhere.
A headphone advisor home studio, making his voice, group and possibly mastering.

Great phones. I use them for detailed listening, tracking, etc. - even mixed. Mixing to headphones in general is not the best idea, but if you know your headphones and what things should sound like for a good mix, its not THAT hard. I've done better mixes with these than some of the cookie-cutter template mixes you'll hear everyday from the high end studio. With all of the different types of headphones on the market today its hard to pick a solid pair that are stable. These are very stable there arent pretty to look at like some of the skull candy headphones or dre beats. But they do the job, I put these up there right with the dre beats. Not as good though, but close. Plus the price is very affordable. I am not sure if they still make these, I got mine back in 2004.


These headphones are super comfortable, and the fold-up design is awesome. I've owned my pair for at least 7 years and they're just about all I've used. They're very durable and they sound REALLY good. And in fact, that is probably my only issue with the 7506. They sound too good. Pretty much every mix I've ever done with them sounds unbelievably awesome in the headset, but when the final mix is played on another system, there is much to adjust. I guess you just have to learn to compensate, but it seems like a lot of compensation especially on the lows and clarity of it all (as in the headset sounds much fuller, clearer and punchier than the mix really is).


Overall, These headphones also have great bass response and very detailed mids and highs. I use these to monitor my mixes and they come out very good and translate well over my studio monitors. I also have the Sennheiser eH-150 headphones and I use them now strictly for tracking vocals.
