Chandler Limited recreates the REDD.47 preamp

Chandler Limited, in partnership with the Abbey Road engineers, has recreated the tube preamp that equipped the REDD.51 mixing consoles.

The REDD.47 originally appeared in 1958 as a replacement for the Telefunken V72S. It was designed as a multifunction line amplifier for the REDD.51 console that equipped the Abbey Road Studio Two and was used during the recordings of the Beatles’ albums between 1964 and 1968, and specially for Revolution.

Chandler Limited decided to reproduce this preamp, with a few twists, including an increased gain. You can use the device as a mic preamp, line amp or DI.

  • Mono preamp
  • EF86 and E88CC valves
  • XLR mic/line input
  • 1/4” DI input
  • XLR output
  • Inputs and outputs are transformer balanced
  • Stepped voltage gain between 16 and 52dB
  • Fine gain control on +/- 5dB
  • Total gain: +57dB
  • Output level control
  • Rumble filter switchable at 30, 45, 60, 70, 90, 110, 130 and 180Hz
  • Switchable -20dB pad
  • Phase reverse switch
  • 48V phantom power
  • Internal power supply

The Chandler Limited REDD.47 is expected during Q1, 2015, no information about its price. You’ll find more info at
