News MOTU 8pre USB

MOTU announces the availability of its 8pre USB 16x12 audio interface and optical expander.

The new 8pre USB is two products in one : a 16×12 USB 2 audio interface and an optical expander.

The interface features 8 instrument/microphone preamps with individual 48V phantom power, high gain switch, 20dB pad and XLR/1/4 jack combo connectors. You’ll also find 8 optical digital ADAT via two ins and outs and 16 channels of MIDI In and Out connectors (USB MIDI also supported). A headphone jack output is also present with its dedicated volume control and you’ll find level meters on the front of the interface. Audio resolution supported is 24-bit / 96kHz. MOTU adds that all inputs and outputs are discrete (handled as separate channels).

When the interface is not connected to the computer, it functions as an 8 channel A/D (optical) converter, so you can connect it to a MOTU 828, 896, Traveler or another 8pre via the built-in optical Lightpipe connection to add 8 mic preamps to your system.

The 8pre USB ships with the CueMix DSP software for Mac OS X (10.6 – 10.8) and Windows (Vista, 7 and 8) so you can mix all 16 inputs from your computer. In expander mode, CueMix is hard-wired to route each analog input to its corresponding optical output channel. In addition, when operating at 1x sample rate (44.1 or 48kHz), the analog input signals are duplicated and sent to both optical output banks so that you can send the analog signals to two separate optical destinations if needed.

The 8pre supports up to 4 separate stereo monitor mixes assigned to any digital or analog output pairs in CueMix. The software also provides talkback and listenback functions.

SMPTE time code sync is also supported via the included MOTU SMPTE console software.

Also included in the software bundle is the AudioDesk DAW for Mac, featuring real time 32-bit effect processors.

US Street Price is $549
