Do you use it with other instruments or systems (mixing console, preamp, DtD, ...) and what's your setup? ... Preamp into an XLR, MPC into a jack. What do you use it for? What's your setup (motherboard, CPU, RAM, hard drive,...)? For everything! To record vocals and separate tracks of the MPC, composing/mixing. Setup: PC 4GB RAM, Windows 7 32 bits. UTILIZATION Are the drivers stable? Very stable. Are they up to date? Yes. Which software do you use? Cubase 5 and FL Studio 11. What's the latency of your system? 8 m/s GETTING STARTED Did you have any problems during the installation? No, it's done pretty fast. Is the overall configuration complicated? Yes. And the virtual mixer is easy to get to grips with. Did you have any incompatibility problems? No. Is the user's manual clear and comprehensive? ... Yes. OVERALL OPINION How long have you been using it? For over 3 years. Did you try any other models before buying this one? An M-Audio FastrackPro. Which feature do you like best? The sound fidelity, the single knob to browse inputs/outputs, the XLR converters, the virtual mixer. Which feature do you like least? Not enough inputs on the rear! I'll have to take the model just above as a consequence. Maybe a small reverb or an EQ. How would you rate its value for money? Maybe a bit expensive. Based on your experience, would you buy this product again? ... Without hesitation! If I had more money, I'd take the 800 to have more inputs/outputs.

Both on Mac and PC. Very short latency for a USB card GETTING STARTED Easy installation. The RME routing utility is a real pain, but once you understand how it works, it's very powerful. OVERALL OPINION I needed a compact soundcard with USB (FireWire is disappearing), good AD/DA converters and a good clock. So, given my budget (less than $1000), I went for RME. I knew pretty well the products (400/800/Micstasy/MADI bridge/ADI2 and 642) and manufacturing quality of the brand, so I opted for a Fireface UC (after hesitating between this one and the UCX). The UCX works with 32bit floating-point, that's the main difference. I use it specially with Protools and Smart. The analog I/Os allow me to use two or three devices. It's a pity it doesn't have AES, but given its size... Good value for money. Typical RME sound. A no-brainer at this price point.

The reputation of very good quality preamps this card and its converters decided me. In addition, I wanted something not too big to make for occasional mobile use. I am not disappointed on any of these points. For what purpose? Use in home studio. Taken his microphone (voice, acoustic instruments ...), taking its instruments (Guitar, Digital Piano) and mix. Repetition in mixing thanks to suffisement important number entered and exit the map. What is your config (Motherboard / CPU / Ram / Hard, ...)? I also have a preamp MPA Gold with various lamps so-called quality (Telefunken, RCA, Us Army ...) but I do not because the quality is "transparent" preamps of the EMR is perfect for me then deal the sound to my liking. Standard USB cable to PC connectivity and classic (Jacks and XLR) but quality to the speakers and instruments. UTILIZATION The drivers are stable? No problems so far. Are they often updated? I am in my third update on the website RME. A small experiment is however to be able to install the driver with Win7 that does not recognize the driver immediately. I found it easily on Tutorials. What software do you use most often? Cubase 5. What latency you get? Today I work in 128. At first I was cracking and I was very disappointed, but after several updates and Win7 driver, doing some cleaning in my PC (quasiement dedicated today that computer music, made by some pages available on the web) and turning off my anti-virus every time I bump it to have been better: I could work properly with several plug-in enabled with a latency of 250 (sorry I do not remember the exact figures ) The problems were finally resolved by adding RAM, with an SSD How many tracks you get to record / playback simultaneously? ... Dorénavent, I can stable and something that suits what I want to do: 6 tracks voices (with EQ + reverb) 1 track digital piano (EQ + Rev) 4 tracks guitar (2 tracks per guitar: 1 electro and the TLM with Rev + + EQ sometimes different effects) 3 tracks percussion (Tablas taken with 3 pickups with EQ + Comp or rev) and sometimes one or two midi tracks (Bass numerical or string can) While the latency 128 .... currently running here ... The converter is also quite clear from what I've had in the past. Noted no extraneous noise does not pass through the signal. I had a bad experience with the previous card in USB plug (background noise of a hub connected to another USB port or a USB cable just plug into my synthesizer) I use my Rme only to record my moog synthesizer, or in the future, use of external analog effects in return. UTILIZATION The drivers are ultra stable, for now I have not seen better, and the team that made the drivers is very reactive! no problems with Mac OSX Leo! I use with my RME, Ableton Live and Logic, the routing is very quick and easy. loopback function of the total mix is very interesting! Small flat for the RME Fireface UC (which has a dsp a little tired in the end). No way to have this effect the equalization or the babyface and UFX. it's a shame I did use the babyface! GETTING STARTED Connection, the intallation is fast: when you have little confusing switch in "Mac", but quickly set! The card is easy takes over, the total mix of a huge opportunity, though a bit tricky at first! Many people regret the lack of a manual in French (thankfully a Audiofanzine forumers of us share a great link to a manual in French!) OVERALL OPINION I use it for a few weeks! It remains to make some test to see if it suits me, but for now I'm happy. The most interesting feature is the converter, which has the money, intended for the professional home studio. The presence of the adat of the word clock, the adat is a plus! I try before 5 this model! Rme babyface is the one that still had the most satisfied, but it had some weaknesses that I can not find with the Fireface. the price / quality ratio is excellent, although there are serious competitor in electronics such as tc (twin impact , Konnekt 48) I would definitely do it again this election with just under a dsp does not exist!

Everything is there: 2 CMOP quality preamps, analog I / O, I / O ADAT / SPDIF, Word Clock, 2 MIDI I / O ... I also wanted a nickel finish and especially a serious and worry-free brand, which provides regular updates of its drivers and meet the technical service. They are few and RME is one of them. What is your config (Motherboard / CPU / Ram / Hard ,...)? Mac Book Pro dual core 2.2 gz (old model) With which instruments or systems (console, preamp, DTD ...) do you use the connection and how? ... For what purpose? Output: Connected on a pair of headphones monitor + monitoring + other headphone when I do a voice session. Input: two microphones, one for the vocalist / singer for a talkback. It may seem under-used, but I like the idea of being able to meet almost any situation. UTILIZATION The drivers are stable? Yes They are often updated? Yes, really not worry about that. What software do you use most often? Ableton Live, Logic How many tracks you get to record / playback simultaneously? ... For now, I'm just taken the voice, so a track. However, I have heard it read usb, the Fireface no more than four tracks beyond 44.1kz. I have not tried it so I do not confirm. What you get lag? My computer is rather feeble and is still subject to the cleat plug-ins, so I'm always up latency, even when I made my voice (I use the time lag on the mode 0 Total Mix). GETTING STARTED The installation is done it without problems? Have you experienced any incompatibilities? The general configuration is easy? The manual is clear and sufficient? ... Yes OVERALL OPINION How long have you use it? 6 months Have you tried many other models before buying it? Apogee Duet What is so special that you like most and least? The overall quality: everything is good, preamps, converters, word clock. In addition, it works without any problem. I have not much to complain, but I have not pushed to its limits. If we had to say a least it would be the only notched button to control everything and the lack of level meter. Nevertheless, I control via midi and it works very well. How would you rate the quality / price? With experience, you do again this choice? ... The value for money is excellent, and in this range, I would do this choice.

I use it with a keypad, micro and sonar. I wanted the USB so you do not have any problem related to the crash of incompatbilité chispset firewire encountered very often on the notebook with firewire also begins to disappear I am running vista 32. UTILIZATION The drivers are of course as usual with RME, completely stable. Nothing to say about integration into your machine whether in terms of ergonomics, stability or latency. on the other hand card gets very hot but I guess that RME has designed the card and knowing that this has no effect on the functioning and the lifespan of the card. GETTING STARTED Installation is not as simple as other interface where you can just double click on an executable to implement everything, but there is not enough to repel any user either. The manual is in English and must mail the bill to the French distributor to send you the translated version. When you receive it will be the manual of the Fireface 400. However, there are some differences. Moreover, the translation is word by word. So I find it very average for an interface at this price. OVERALL OPINION I use it for 2 months but I had a multifaceted for several years. In the same price range, I tried the MOTU which has more possibilities for plug-in and has excellent converters. However, I prefer RME which delivers a bit more fishing output, particularly at the headphone particularly low for MOTU. In addition, there is an option synchroniqtation Automatic clock in RME. So for the numerical advantage to EMR. Here where I want to make a rant is quality preamp EMR. If they are good, the fact remains that they do not replace a preamp 500. Indeed, RME shows a gain of up to 65db. Or from 35db, the breath begins to become unbearable to be heard beyond. My card is left in the VAS and the finding is "normal operation". So forget the use of micro dynamics. Pity that this price we can benefit from universal preamp and quality. But if that were the case, what would be the purchase of a separate preamp? Last point, I regret the lack of plug ins and effects so that all competitors offer today, and some are of quality. there is not even low cut filters on the preamp. To conclude, this is the best interface and you will be fulfilled for the functions they perform. But do not expect a card that does everything. it does not exist. I put him 1O as a simple audio interface but I weighted my overall rating because of the preamp, the manual and the absence of certain treatments.
