A beautiful beast of over 30 kgs at an unbeatable price Outlet.
UTILIZATION
Let's start with what appealed to me:
nice piano keyboard (the purists will find it may be too light but for me it is nickel, a look and weight is impressive, very good sound, the side-Swiss knife / workstation with full functionality and especially the price : this keyboard was purchased in Germany (MusicStore) Outlet for 1 / 3 of its output value.
Now -:
I bought this machine to replace my Ensoniq ASR-10.
This famous sampler-workstation who had served for over 15 years.
I wanted to start again on a new machine, more complete and benefit from 15 years of technological progress also with a larger screen to facilitate the work ... and this is where the bottom lies. The Alesis Fusion, although comprehensive ergonomics has to wonder if the designers were not from another planet.
What is certain is that the engineering team used for the Fusion never used an Ensoniq or even a computer. I exaggerate only: ergonomics is absolutely not designed to facilitate the work and I do not speak the sequencer. It does not support sequences (or patterns). This design measures to be defined at all times is very heavy. Define measures to 01.xx.001 04.04.479 or something like that is really the kind of thing that swells.
This makes obvious usability issues including the use of the sequencer almost impossible in my opinion explains the commercial failure of Fusion.
SOUNDS
Fortunately, this machine still has potential.
The sounds are quite good and complete.
The side sampler allows for some beautiful piano sounds, strings, batteries, ...
Add to this synthesis modules and FM VA and you have some beautiful pads, leads, ... Where my Ensoniq ASR-10 had large gaps.
The 80GB hard disk drive allows you to add a large number of banks.
HollowSun banks are a must! But I also want to include banks vstream at very attractive price and high quality, PRK, and there are also many contributions: the community is rich on the web.
It's a good point here for the Fusion.
OVERALL OPINION
I use it now for about a year.
It suits me very well for the keyboard and the sounds.
However, the sequencer unusable forces you to go through a PC.
This is not necessarily annoying but that is not what one might call a Workstation, so you have to know.
And just for that reason, + ergonomics to sleep standing up, this keyboard disappoints me.
I wonder, or are past the 15 years between my Ensoniq ASR-10 and the Fusion?
Another bad point, it can not be connected by USB to a PC (noon mandatory) and four knobs and buttons PLAY, STOP, REC ... can not be assigned :-(
To be used primarily for his keyboard so nice and very good quality and sound.
For the price bought Outlet (~ € 1000 this remains a case) but at the cost sold out (more than € 3,000 it is a shame).
