Yamaha SV-250 & SV-255

Yamaha Corporation of America announced that the SV-250 4-string and SV-255 5-string Acoustic-body Silent violins debuted at Winter NAMM 2010 are now shipping.

Traditional string spacing on both the 4- and 5-string models are designed to allow the player to move as naturally as they do one their acoustic violin. By taking the electronic components out of the body of the instrument, Yamaha says it was able to reduce the weight of the instrument to that of a typical acoustic violin.

The pick-up design allows the player to blend the tone quality from an edgy electric to a rich acoustic sound. An external control box contains a pre-amp, master volume control, treble, and bass tone controls, as well as quarter-inch and XLR balanced outputs.

Both models are crafted from seasoned flamed maple, with aged spruce tops and fit with ebony pegs, fingerboard and chinrest, allowing for normal instrument maintenance by any skilled violin luthier.

The instruments are backed by Yamaha’s limited five-year warranty.

The SV-250 4-string and SV-255 5-string Acoustic-body Silent violins have an expected MSRP $2295.00 for the 4-string and $2395.00 for the 5-string.
