« Rad little pedal! »

Published on 04/04/11 at 23:16
The DigiTech X-Series Synth Wah/Envelope Filter is an extensive little pedal. It has 7 modes and 3 knobs to control the modes. Dry and Wet outputs, 9VDC adapter. It's a digital pedal with some really usable features and lots of tweakability. The DigiTech enclosures are built like tanks. You don't need to worry about these pedals on the road. They'll survive a nuclear winter.

UTILIZATION

The effect pedal itself is pretty easy to figure out. Each of the 7 modes are labeled on the pedal itself. With the three knobs you control sensitivity, control and range. Each knob works a little differently for each mode. The modes include: Envelope up, Envelope down, two synth modes (one a little more aggressive than the other), two filters (hi pass and low pass kind of a deal), and autowah. You can find some really useful sounds, but it does require a lot of tweaking. This thing goes from full on craziness to backed off cocked wah sounds.

SOUND QUALITY

Each of the 7 modes are pretty useful and are all fairly unique. I was able to get some pretty cool sounds. It pairs well with a little dirt. Although there is a bass version of this pedal, I found that this one works fairly well with bass as well. The more useful modes for me were the filters and the autowah. The synth modes seem about out of control, but are very fun. It doesn't seem to mess with my tone while it's bypassed.

OVERALL OPINION

For the price, this pedal is a steal. It's very fun to play with and can expand your sound a lot. I haven't played many pedals like this, but I haven't found one that has this many modes in one small box. Very, very cool pedal. If you're looking for something a little different to make you stick out, this could be that pedal. I would completely recommend this to someone looking for a very entertaining pedal.
