Value For Money : Excellent
The Laney Chrome-o-zone is all-tube guitar amplifier (El-84), a power of 30 watts. It has two entries: "hi" & "low" gain. Its interface consists of several knobs controlling each respective channels (Clean, Crunch, Overdrive, and Distortion) and controlled by the user chooses.
It is robust and has a clumsy side, despite his rather sober look cozy, close to an acoustic amp, exept may be the bottom of the interface, which looks like an a mirror. Some adjustment period will be required to operate the cattle without thinking.
It features an LED footswich:
- Green for channel Clean / crunch,
- Red Channels "overdrive" and "distortion"
- Orange for Reverb

Directly on the interface:
CLEAN CHANNEL:
Volume -1
-1 Button "Bright" for a color in the treble, only the first 2 channels
CRUNCH CHANNEL:
-1 First gain, volume 1
-4 Knobs of the EQ (Bass, Mid, Treble, Reverb)
-1 Knob graduation effect (possibly connected to the back of the amp)
OVERDRIVE CHANNEL:
-1 Gain, volume 1
-4 Knobs for EQ (Bass, mid, treble, reverb)
-1 knob effect
Distortion channel:
-1 Gain, Volume 1, set the equalizer is the same as for the Canal Drive.

No effect is built into the amp, exept the possibility to play either triode or pentode in.

UTILIZATION

Use level, it's pretty simple in theory, but the settings are many, many opportunities can nuirent the simplicity of a sound. The configurations are interchangeable SPEED, but certain functions is the most complete useless. button "damping" which has every appearance of being a moderator is bonement power crazy. Y's turn down the volume .... Personally, it is always between the two positions at home (the most neutral position)
Very good point on the back of the amp is a knob that serves as controller general of power! Excellent for a minimum return on its lights at low volume, even if the Laney really sends what it has in the gut when deep breath!

SOUNDS

For sound, I will first detail the equalization: It is well made, with rather régalges purposes. Good point on that side, a broad sound palette available to you with this amp.

- The clean channel is superb. the highs were a surprising round, rather "low / medium", with brilliant highs wishes to, if not downright crystalline if you push the button "Bright" ... a real treat! In the studio, the sound of this amp is clean beautiful clean. Word user!
- The crunch channel is by far the most successful of all. It has a smooth sound exeptionnelle! Play the Blues on this amp puts you in middle America, with a unique sound, when properly adjusted, and the lights are hot. The first time I play more than half an hour with a strat US, the results were up to my expectations ... "THE" His lamp. Slamming (stratum), accurate, and powerful enough. A bit of short delay, the gain of 6, the volume of 9, a Start ... And here we go. To get its edge with a scraper humbucker, the gain of 3, the volume of 8 ... and the delight guaranteed! Magnificent achievement that channel!
The channel-Drive (B) is powerful and heavy. It is typed his current, but still a drive channel. It is bold and far less accurate than the crunch pushed up. More cumbersome, but fishing is more accurate ... not sure what is asked of him either! ... I use it as extra boost (with an Ibanez Ts-9) for solos.
Distortion-channel sound is closer to Marshall than VOX. Very fat, and cold enough for my taste, I do not use very little. In chords behind a precise rhythm, to cover the spectrum, for example. Rich in harmonics, it is well suited to solo typed "shred" in + a good distortion pedal, and set bass / treble that borders on metal.

OVERALL OPINION

Voila! I use this amp for almost 2 years and I plan to part with it to buy a Vox. Sounds hot and slightly greasy talk to me well!
I bought this amp while I was off on something else, and when I did try, I immediately adhere to the clean and crunch channel. Truly beautiful! I played on a Hughes & Kettner before it, and the difference was so drastic that I broke down right away! I do not regret cete impulse buying, especially since it is accessible to an all-tube, Class A and more! Very good quality / price ratio, for against, it is not very common as the amp, and therefore difficult to resell. I would do without this choice hésietr second one, at least for the first two channels ...
