Using the Darwinian concept to create a virtual modular synth is Darwin Arts’ new challenge with Trilobite.
Those who knew the Cambian Suite can now discover its evolution, renamed Trilobite and available as a v0.9.3 beta version as a standalone software and VST/AU plug-in for Mac OS X and Windows.
With Trilobite, you’ll create/edit new sounds by using modular synth patches, in which you can freely arrange various modules such as audio or MIDI input and output, oscillators, filter, envelope follower, ADSR envelope and more.
These patches can then evolve interactively and create new sounds. Trilobite encodes patches as generic data links (“genotypes”) that are recombined using proprietary techniques (algorithms) to create a new genotype population. A special window is dedicated to the manipulation of this population, you can for instance control its size.
You’ll need to register at http://www.darwinarts.com/8–2/products/ to download Trilobite. We invite you to watch the two videos below and read the online user manual for the instrument (or better said an effect, such as recognized in your DAW) offers a lot of features. A forum is also open where you can post your questions and comments, the developer is quite active there (Trilobite is still in beta phase).
