I used this cell for a year and a half after having an old Barcus Berry, a fismann BP 100: to avoid, or manufacturing or even, 2 to 1 € piezo wafer, solder, glue for solidify ... I made a few, to test, and I currently use a Schertler Stat B select.
You can connect the full circle live on a bass amp, but there is a problem of impedance matching. Through a preamp designed for the high impedance of piezo are recovered severe grain, "air" in the acute and dynamics. It feels a little difference at home, but in a situation on stage, we quickly understand that it is essential when making the comparison with / without. For me, it's the old preamp minimum of Barcus I emerged from the dust that filled that office.
Among the problems: there may be poor contact at the white wire that goes into the wheel problem on the first models I think, is removable and changeable for added strength, but I have not tried. (See forums contrebasse.com)
Advantage: we have a good bass sound with this cell. Disadvantage: yes, but not that of my bass ... the sound engineer is happy but me I hear a different instrument than the one I work at home in acoustics. Yes, I know is looking for the holy grail of bass.
I would do if this election? I do not know. For now, I have a Schertler is good but not perfect either. I continue my quest for pure sound of the CB in the amp, including making my own experiences of manufacturing cell when I have time.
