A video tour of Fry Pharmacy Recording, an all-analog studio outside Nashville

A Studio Where Tape is Still King

Located about 20 minutes northeast of Nashville, Fry Pharmacy Recording is a throwback to the days when tape ruled supreme. Audiofanzine visited the studio recently, and we produced this video tour.

Built in an old pharmacy building, the studio features a pair of 2” multitracks, among many other tape machines, plus an old Sphere console that used to reside in the Grand Ole Opry. It also contains racks full of vintage analog processors, and a mic collection highlighted by numerous vintage ribbon mics (have you ever seen an RCA “Paint Brush” mic?). It’s a destination studio for bands and artists looking for an authentic analog sound.

When we visited, during the week of Summer NAMM, owner/engineer Scott McEwen brought in some area musicians to record, so we could see (and hear)  the studio in action. I was drafted to play bass on the song we recorded, and afterwards, Scott mixed it for us to use in the video.

Sit back and enjoy “100% Analog, ” our video tour of Fry Pharmacy Recording.

To learn more about the studio, check out the Fry Pharmacy Recording website.
