Marshall Valvestate 100 Watt Limited Edition Half Stack

Marshall VS100RHPublished on 06/26/02 at 15:00
My friend and bass player in my band told me about a great deal at a local Music-Go-Round. I needed a new amp and I was looking for a good amp that would handle a lot of raw tones, specifically distortion. I was lucky to find that the stack was only $460.00 used. It was the best deal I ever made in my life.

I love the overdrives, I switch between both of them, and the reverb is great too. The cab and the head are both super-light and easy to haul around. It is very good in keeping up its look. I have many shows and it has yet to loose parts or get damaged. It's a Marshall, so I knew it would hold up well.

I really dont like the clean channel on it too much. I don't really use it a lot, but there is a crackle to it whenever I hit a chord too hard, and it is really annoying. It was most likely the result from the previous owner of the amp, I knoiw the amp was not built with the defect in the channel.

The cabinet and the head are both covered in white. That is why it is so special. It is a limited edition that came out of Musician's Friend. It is just like any other Marshall half stack in the AVT series. It is very sturdy.

The bottom line is I am happy I bought it. It has a lot of power and it can fit any type of music that you are into. I definitely recommend this amp.

Metal Marshall hybrid amp

Marshall VS100RHPublished on 06/09/11 at 07:54
In the 90s Marshall attempted to bridge the gap between tube amps and solid state amps by making hybrid amps. The Marshall hybrid amps contained a tube in the preamp with a solid state power section. This solid state power section meant you could easily simulate load on the amp and get great tones even at low volumes. It has a clean channel and an overdrive channel. The overdrive channel comes with two voicings and the clean channel has its own EQ. They call it a 3 channel amp but it is really a two channel amp with two overdrive modes. It puts out 100watts of power with an effects loop. It has a rather flimsy spring reverb. When i got mine it was almost broken off. It pretty much...…

It pretty much rattles inside the amp chassis.

UTILIZATION

It has a few more knobs than your normal amp. Starting at the left you have the input for your guitar cable. The first set of knobs are for the clean channel. After the clean channels EQ knobs there are some buttons for a clean boost or clean OD sound for the clean channel. The next two knobs are the gain and volume for the overdrive 1 channel. Then there is a button to switch between OD 1 and OD 2. The overdrive 2 section has gain contour and volume. The contour knob will be your best friend with this amp. After these knobs there is the shared EQ for the overdrive channels. The last set of knobs are for the FX loop and the reverb. You can adjust how much reverb you get on the clean and dirty channels.

SOUNDS

The gain on this amp is very contemporary sounding. Playing with the contour knob you can go from a classic British sound to a searing high gain sound. The contour knob emulates the loading of the power amp. Chuck Schuldiner from Death used this this amp on most of his albums and it sounds exactly like what you heard on these albums. With the contour knob on low the sound is more classic Marshall. It has a lot of bite and clarity. With the contour knob turned up all the way the it tightens way up. With the contour knob up it almost sounds like a modern 6l6 amp. The clean channel is good but it is not great. The clean channel has a very cold sound even with the reverb on.

OVERALL OPINION

These amps are hidden gems. They only sell for about 200 bucks because everyone is afraid of the valvestate label. These amps are really good. You can get classic Marshall tones and heavy metal tones. Since it has half the tubes there is pretty much no maintenence needed. If you are looking for a good solid metal amp and see one of these you should try it.

Sonorities type metal old school, certainly if you are looking for a modern and clean distortion, this amp is not for you.
Perfect for the old black metal, punk or other dirty sound.

UTILIZATION

Operation is simple.
In his clear, a Tone Shift button to switch between a clear Vintage sound more modern, more Dfine Tone.
In the saturated, the product of an overdrive sound from a sound lgrement crunch sound bluer / rock style AC / DC.
The overdrive 2 has more gain. In addition, a call contour knob gives the characters sound. At a minimum, has a pai blues sound like smoky bar and the bottom was a well metal. It therefore has the full range of its intermdiaire.
The eq has no drastic action but are still musical.
It is easily the sound you want, especially if one considers that there is a power button size that works as a sort of Power Brake allg. We can therefore obtain low power, a sound very similar to the sound that would be obtained if you push the amp back, especially at the grave.

SOUNDS

The amp meets normment the guitar you use. Especially in his clear, the difference between a simple micro scratches and scrapes a dual microphones is perfectly rendered. These same sounds clearly benefitted from an excellent monitoring of the dynamics and trs pure, it's hard to believe it's a Marshall. It is not clear sounds dignent a Fender Twin, but it moves away as if a.
The distorted sounds when they are also excellent. With an overdrive, there are the sounds of a JCM 800. When the overdrive 2, we say a more Boogie, with its massive, super thick and sharp, ideal for metal rhythm. Solo, the guitar "sings", and although the sound CONTRL.
Trs good for the price.

OVERALL OPINION

I use this amp for 8 years. I still tonn its sound worthy of a higher end amp. I prfre even its "big ERRF" The series of JCM.
While this is not an ENGL or Boogie, but for the price, it's really the top, and budget gal, I no referrer hsitation this choice, more than the amp is trs versatile with both the clear and beautiful sounds saturated standards.
